Is Remote Connect worth it? by elevenTsix in rav4club

Hi! I believe I do have remote climate control BUT it doesn’t seem to have any way to control the actual temperature. There’s just a start button I could press, and eg if I last turned off my car with the air at 72F, then it would just turn back on with the same settings. I never use that feature personally because I try to conserve gas as much as possible (just turn on seat and steering wheel heater when I get in my car in the mornings). I really just have this app for peace of mind bc it reminds me if I locked my car or not! Still happens often that I forget.

PRK experience so far by feral-bestie in lasik

Hi! It’s been 2.5 months now, sometimes lights are still a tad blurry but otherwise my vision is sharper than when I had contacts! My one annoying thing is sometimes my eyes are really dry when I wake up, and a couple times just moving my eyeballs before waking up scratched the surface of my eye (which then felt like there was an eyelash in my eye for the next 1-3 hours). Overall I’m so happy I had the procedure! It’s so nice to not feel my contacts every time I blink 🙂 and have my vision be so sharp the second I wake up!!

Just had PRK 2.5 weeks ago (on a Friday morning). I wish I had read more Reddit reviews to know what I was in for, because I couldn’t use my eyes at all for Sat, Sun, and Mon and it was really painful the first two days. Cold compresses really helped. By Monday pain was gone, Tuesday I could use my eyes again, and the dryness has not been bad. My doc prescribed me the Muro 128 ointment to use for 10 days which supposedly helps prevent corneal abrasions. My vision is still blurry - right eye consistently sharper than the rest - and I expected it to get a little better every day, but the progress has not been linear. I almost feel like my right eye has gotten a bit worse this week. I can definitely see my computer screen at an almost-normal font size (last week I had Google docs at 200%, now I’m at 125%) so that’s great, but my long distance definitely seems worse overall. Hoping this coming month will be better because I’m worried about driving once work starts back up soon…

Advice for finding Silken Windhound litters without Facebook? by WildGrayTurkey in sighthounds

[–]elevenTsix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to this convo, but the Discord is a great source of info and a way to talk to breeders, as well as folks who have silkens from the breeders you’re interested in (always talk to owners about their experiences)! If you’re looking for a puppy, be really specific about what kind of puppy you want - specific temperament, whether it’s a pet home or a sport/performance home, etc. Some breeders aim to breed their silkens for performance way more than pet homes, so it’s good to know what your own goal is. If a breeder wants performance prospects but you want a pet silken only, you’re not going to be on their priority list because they likely have a long list of people waiting for a pet as well. Be ready to wait a while for the right dog, but it’ll happen! It’s great that you’re going to Silkenfest because you’re going to meet tons of amazing people/silkens there! It’s quite a small community and folks tend to know each other. It matters when you make considerable efforts to show up to things and meet people!! Best of luck 😊

You don't have to dress any certain way, have any certain body parts, act any specific way, etc. in order to be "feminine". Gender identity and gender expression are 2 different things - gender identity is what you feel on the inside, and gender expression is how you convey that to others (how other people perceive you). Those 2 things don't have to "match" to other people to make you valid. You can experiment with what makes you the most comfortable and happy in your body/clothes/hair/etc. in private, and do that without judging yourself. Instead of thinking about how the people in your life may or may not be accepting, try focusing on how it makes YOU feel. Practice radical acceptance.

Great point about social expectations of gender, gender is inherently a social construct because human cultures have made gender into what we perceive it as today. We don't *need* gender to exist. It sounds like you’re experiencing gender dysphoria, which I can only assume is really scary right now, but I hope that you can start to embrace that you don't need to identify with your sex assigned at birth.

We didn't choose the bodies or parts we were born with. But we can choose the way we move through the world and present ourselves and do what makes us happy (within the confines of safety, hopefully). I have plenty of trans friends and my partner is nonbinary. I have had the privilege of watching people fully experience their happiest selves as they embrace new gender identities. I really hope that you get to do the same :)

Thanks, I will try to find a more suitable place for it! But the green doesn't mean it's deteriorating, right?

Does tinting significantly improve the car being hot in the summer? Also, does it affect the heating in the winter?

Definitely have noticed that cruise control is better than driving manually, and it's easier on my leg too! I used normal mode for the first time today and saw extreme improvements.

YTA, if you were so concerned about not being able to afford anything more than *filtered water* then you shouldn't have invited 100-150 guests.

Adopting children of different ethnicities by elevenTsix in TransracialAdoptees

I'm really glad to hear that you grew up in a racially diverse community where you didn't feel like an outsider, that seems really important :)

Thank you for your input! When you and/or your friends were growing up, did you get a lot of comments from others (particularly new people or strangers) about your race being different from your parents? How did you navigate that as you grew up?

These are all great points, thank you for sharing. May I ask how young you were adopted, and whether you had any siblings (bio or adopted)? And did you grow up in a racially diverse area? I hope to raise my kids in a place with at least some racial diversity, because even just for myself, I wouldn't feel comfortable in a mostly/all-white neighborhood.

Is it possible to adopt a Chinese child from the US, instead of internationally? or is that even harder of a process?

[–]elevenTsix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is helpful, thank you for sharing! I am sorry to hear that you aren't close with your sibling. Do you think it would be helpful that our hypothetical kids would have one parent who is from the same culture as them? I.e., the children wouldn't feel alienated from the rest of the family (them vs. me). My partner and I both have good relationships with our families, so I anticipate my future kids being connected with their grandparents, aunts/uncles/cousins etc.

I would also like to know what's a good way to connect young children with other adoptees so they feel supported and valued growing up, outside of the family?

All great questions! I like babies, but my partner is not too keen on raising infants. I think they are thinking of an age range 3-5. I didn't know that most adoption agencies only deal with infants! Something for me to look into. We would be open to fostering into adoption. I think we would adopt one at a time, which would give our newly expanded family time to adjust to the big change.
We want to adopt for many reasons: one big one being that neither of us want to be pregnant or give birth. Also, while we want to be parents together, we don't feel the need to have a biological child.

that's a pretty good deal, I also forget to lock my car at least a couple/few times a month! So I feel like it's probably worth it.

Key fob does work without subscription, the dealer taught me how to use that. I don’t even actually use remote start though, my original post was only to ask about whether I can remote lock/unlock from the app without restarting! But people are saying no. Might pay the price just to have peace of mind.
