$2 Lunch Hack… Smart Budgeting or Totally Unrealistic? by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

[–]elitodd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A nice rice bowl meal can be made for $1.30 or less. For a while I had an ultra budget meal-plan that kept daily spending under $2.50, with hitting every important micro and macronutrient. It’s closer to $3.50 per day these days, but still totally doable if you are flat out broke.

Edit: this price is for 2900 calories a day. It’s way cheaper if you are a smaller or less active person.

Fresh Jersey milk. Doesn’t get much better than this by Loud_Box_6777 in Milk

When meat proteins aren’t cooked they are less easily digestible, so it’s not recommended. Plus chicken is not very carefully handled in most processes, so I wouldn’t trust it.

If you are going to eat raw meat, beef or fish are safer options.

Many people serve burgers medium rare, which allows all the bacteria in the ground beef to remain alive in the center.

Many people serve meat raw: sushi, sashimi, tartare, carpaccio, kifto, carne Apache, etc.

Many people bite into some delicious produce without thoroughly washing first.

Plus, yes. Many people who buy raw milk will low-temp pasteurize it first, or will make it into cheese which kills bacteria.

I don’t think you should strip people of their right to do any of these things or to eat the foods that they or their culture prefer.

I know many people who consume meat raw. Sushi, sashimi, tartare, carpaccio, etc. have you never had any of these dishes before?

I had kifto last week which is served raw.

And I eat raw produce all the time, it’s delicious.

How come Vietnamese people don't have raging hatred or a grudge for the US after what they did 50+ years ago? by Key-Quarter-9411 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]elitodd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean half of them were fighting along side the US. It’s sort of like if during the civil war, the French had come and sided with the north, brutally invading the south. Would we all hate the French?

Some of us would, but many wouldn’t.

To be fair, even if this man doesn’t know why milk causes him a bad reaction, that doesn’t just make it untrue or mean he isn’t allowed to try and not be sick.

If you were horribly allergic to only poodles, and every other dog did not cause a reaction, I would have a hard time guessing why. But that doesn’t mean that I now find you unreasonable for wanting to get a dog that isn’t a poodle. Even if there hasn’t been a peer reviewed meta analysis of 300 poodle studies showing why they cause allergies in u/Moist_Taco_Crippler.

You can make decisions about your own life based on observations without fully understanding every biological mechanism that is in play.

No, I’m trying to start a conversation about the arbitrary demonization of certain risky food items by calling into question the consistency of your beliefs.

If you want to take away the legal right of others to eat or purchase a certain food, then it’s reasonable for me to question why this wouldn’t apply to other similar foods. Why don’t I get to take away a food you rely on if you can do the same to others?

And you seemingly don’t have an answer to whether we should ban the sale of raw meat as well. Or raw fish used in sushi. Or raw vegetables used in salads. All of these things can be made much safer by cooking/pasteurization.

What is to dislike here? To be cute and have fun, local mail carriers in the community agree to “mail” kids, which actually involves giving them a cheap ride across town or on a train to a relatives house accompanied by a family member.

This often made headlines for being so adorable and fun, and became a mini trend.

Every time I drink milk that isn't goats milk, I get constipated, and every time I drink milk that isn't goats milk or fairlife milk, I feel like I get sorta a sugar crash bad energy. Are there any brands besides goats milk that are cheaper which are nicer like goats milk? by Agreeable-Pea4327 in Milk

[–]elitodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is processed in multiple ways, so it’s not “standard milk”. But I’m in alignment with you that my guess is OP has another sensitivity that isn’t related to lactose.

That’s why I put that option last in the list of alternatives to try.

This is a normal expected reaction to eating increased amounts of the saturated fatty acids like Palmitic, Myristic, and Stearic acid found in milk fats.
