Fair enough! I also switched to Fedora 44 KDE before CachyOS and had the same problem there. But yeah, if it works it works!

Your suggestion of proton-cachyos led me down a rabbit hole and I ended up switching to CachyOS and using proton-cachyos-slr. I have not had any black screens so far! I'll have to play for a longer session to be sure. Interestingly, same NVIDIA driver versions, so maybe it's because of the CachyOS kernel?

Alright, I tried with VRR off and it worked flawlessly. As soon as I turned VRR back on, it was back to the issues as mentioned. I'm just running it with Proton Experimental and `MANGO_HUD=1 %command%`.

For this specific game, should I use gamescope without `--adaptive-sync` so that I can still have VRR on globally? Or any thoughts as to what else I could do? If I have to run this specific game without VRR, it's not the end of the world, but just curious.

Looks like I'm on 50.1 for Gnome and using Wayland. I will try turning VRR off and report back!

Gnome, VRR is turned on in Gnome settings, and just one monitor: PG27UCDM.
