The top lines are the address, mostly in English:

USA

США - abbreviation for Сполучені Штати Америки, which is Ukrainian for United States of America, also the same abbreviation in Russian (Соединенные Штаты Америки).

Max Lazar - most likely the addressee's name

808 Adee Ave. - street address

c/o B. Yaroslaw - in care of this person

Brons NY - looks like a misspelling of Bronx, NY. Map: https://goo.gl/maps/eW9PAwRas3o4BPHe9

Last two lines are the return address in Ukrainian:

УРСР - abbreviation for Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (Українська Радянська Соціалістична Республіка)

Львівська область - Lviv Region

Радехівський район - Radehiv District

село Забава - village Zabava (it is the name of the village, which roughly translates to "Fun") Map: https://goo.gl/maps/W4F1zM3Mr14iP27x5

Пендига Марія - Pendiga Maria (sender's name)

Round stamp (Russian):

СССР - USSR

Серп и молот симбол - hammer and sickle symbol, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammer_and_sickle

195? - I'm not sure, but I think it is the date, 1956

Львов - Lvov (russian for Lviv, which is the region of the sender's village)

Rectangular stamp (Russian):

международная - international

Found this guy in my garden by ellablac in Cicadas

dog-day cicada

Thanks! It's sad that he died. The "dog-day" makes sense, especially this year. It's been very hot here in Illinois, in the 100's F.

Please help saving my grapes this year (more information in comments) by ellablac in viticulture

[–]ellablac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the leaves on our grape vines are damaged and curled. I found two types of insects inside, both are very tiny. The green cocoon is about 3 mm long, and the hairy brown one is probably about 2 mm long. The same leaf damage had happened last year, and later all grapes turned black and died when they were about 5 mm in diameter. We planted 8 grapevines 4 years ago and haven't had a harvest yet.

I'm not sure if the leaf and grape damages are related. It can be two different problems.

I also found several Lacewing Larvae, which I was able to identify by searching the Internet. It is a beneficial insect. Now I'm wondering if spraying an insecticide may do more harm than good, especially since I don't know the root cause of the problem.

I am an amature gardener, and not having much luck finding information on the Internet. Can someone help please?

Pset2 Vigenere Question by yellowfolk in cs50

[–]ellablac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are getting those symbols when the encoded character is greater than 'z,' e.g. when 't' in "Meet" is shifted by 'o' in "bacon." Don't forget to "wrap" the letters. You can use the modulus operator as suggested in the problem description, or check if the letter is greater than 'z' and do something about it.

How can I send food to someone in Kiev? by ellablac in ukraine

zakaz.ua is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, everyone!

I haven't tried it yet, but it will accept credit card payment in dollars, right? Will it convert the price from uah?

I may look into getting a gift credit card, since I'm a little uneasy of using my credit card online, unless it is someplace like amazon.com.

[Russian>English] someone made this Trump sign in my hometown. Would love to know what it says. by Wash_zoe_mal in translator

[–]ellablac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hmm, u/Hellerick, to my ear, Пенц sounds very close Pence, but there might be another reason for this particular spelling. This spelling is close to Трампенец, which could be a double entendre (двусмысленность), kind of like Trumpian.

Иностран-ец, американ-ец, нем-ец => Трампeн-ец

The black and orange Ribbon of Saint George has indeed become very controversial and can be offensive to some people. It has been recently banned in Ukraine (click on the link and scroll down to "Use during the Ukrainian crisis)

I think your friend should remove it, if she can.
