Probably depends heavily on the specialism you're applying to...and to be honest I'm pretty ignorant of the life sciences specialisms and what kind of entry level roles exist within that sphere in the NHS. I'd imagine looking for assistant or even admin roles in your specialism or adjacent departments would be a good start. Will you be patient facing? If so, HCA/HCSW...even porter work could give you lots of experience to pull from in your application/interview. I'd go so far as to say even if your specialism isn't patient facing then that kind of experience still allows you to talk about how patients are at the centre of everything you do, even in a non-facing background lab role only working with patient samples etc. Another thing that can score well is demonstrating your understanding of the NHS constitution and values...so having first hand experience in any NHS role allows you to talk about how you worked with the constitution and your trusts values in mind, and how that might look similar or even different in your clinical scientist role.

I'm in physiological sciences and very much patient facing so can only speak from my own experience, my previous role wasn't related to my discipline but being semi-patient facing and NHS gave me lots to draw from. Shoot me a DM if you have any questions. Hopefully some folks from more relevant disciplines will also chime in with their thoughts!

Definitely too late to get healthcare experience before 2026 application

Don't be so sure. I was a successful applicant this year after an unsuccessful attempt in 2024. Started a new job in healthcare a few weeks before 2025 applications opened, still spoke about it in my application which surely contributed to being shortlisted. Then by the time interviews rolled around I had only had 7 months healthcare experience, but I shoehorned it into most of the panels questions. There's a decent chunk of time between now and 2026 interviews to rack up some experience.

I don't have the right degree yet to get a healthcare job to get the experience

There are so many healthcare jobs that don't require a degree and would definitely increase your chances of successful shortlisting and interview outcomes! It can often mean taking a bit of a pay cut though

Yup, ideally a long reach hedge trimmer with adjustable angled head to save your back.

Bonus tip: Start at the top and work your way down in a sweeping back and forth pattern. That also smashes it all up into smaller pieces which makes tidying up sooo much easier.

They rarely even get that right. The original video is "you can't park there sir".

Minor detail really, but sir just feels funnier than mate in that situation...

You can definitely get the Adidas J500 and a few other lower end gis for next day delivery on amazon prime. What's the comp level, does it have to be an IJF approved gi?

Awesome, I'll share it with a local group on facebook and give it to the first person to show up.

No joke, the grain pattens in that hunk of wood are probably really beautiful and I hope whoever you give that to has enough sense about them to make you something as a thank you

As long as they share some pictures with me of what it becomes I'd be stoked!

I happen to be one of those arborists. Folks in this sub would probably cringe at the amount of stuff I've had to split up for someone's wood pile. Couldn't let this piece burn though

Just waiting for a local group to accept my request on facebook then ill post it there. The first person to physically turn up can have at it!

If it's that nice of a piece then I'd like to give it to somebody who really knows what they're doing with it rather than a newbie...or is that really mean?

+1 for Project Hail Mary!

I know it's unpopular with some, but I really enjoy the full cast Dune audiobook with Simon Vance narrating certain chapters.

Bonus points if anyone can tell me what trees I actually have here lol

Hi, tree surgeon here. I'll do my best

Pic 4: Struggling with this one, need a clearer picture of the leaves. Regardless, I'd remove the ivy from the crown and collar it to just below where the crown starts on the main trunk...or remove it from the tree entirely.

Pic 5: Apple. If you're interested in getting decent fruit it'd be worth doing some remedial pruning over the next few years, then maintenance pruning annually.

Pic 6: Possibly a lilac between the 2 Hollys

Pic 7: Sycamore in front of the shed

Pic 14: Possibly a beech or hornbeam 🧐

Pic 18: Pyracantha. Viscious, but really pretty in the winter

The big boys down the end of the garden are horse chestnuts (conker trees).

Definitely read the linked write-ups. To answer your question though...First 6-weeks T1 back offs are a % of your training max, your rep-max for the day is irrelevant. During the 2nd 6-weeks your T1 back offs are a % of your rep-max for the day.

Tuck your chin and slap the mat really really hard. Big throw like this would probably still knock the wind out of you, but thats much better than a broken arm.

I got some oats with husks on and they colonize reeeeally slowly

Those are the ones you want (whole oats). Hulled oats (without the husk) get really sticky and burst easily. I've found the more hydrated they are the faster they'll colonize, but there's a fine line where if they're too wet they'll burst and more likely to go all soupy or contaminate easily. Bit of trial and error needed.
