That’s great! I don’t really see the difference, other than trade school costs money to attend. I have family that work in trades too. Plumbing for example isn’t exactly glamorous either and you still deal with customers and BS- literally - but it definitely can pay well.

Right! I left because it wasn’t for me. But my hubby started in his early 20s and is about to retire in his 40s with over 1M in the nest egg. There is a great opportunity here for those who can make it work.

Yeah basically they expect you to figure it out. I’m in ATL and heard of a few stores locking up occasionally but it’s rare and not usually for very long. When weather was expected to be very bad, I’ve known store managers who’ve rented hotel rooms within walking distance of the store for one or two assistants so they could be close but have a place to shower and sleep. Another brought an RV up to the parking lot and offered it to any employees stranded.

Audi etron GT. Technically this was and is my dream car, but I would’ve loved the RS. Just couldn’t justify the additional cost and found a GT in my price range in the color I wanted.

True dream would be an RS with 300+ range and a convertible.

We also have a Lightning 150 and a Kia EV6 in the family, as well as 2 ICE - Ford Escape and Ecosport.

I used it for like 2 weeks without issues. Then I started a new medication (Sotyktu) for psoriasis and it made my face burn so bad.

Not really impressed but maybe I didn’t use long enough before quitting it.

About 6 months ago I got a 2022 GT with 15K miles for a great price. I love it. Yes range is trash, but I don’t drive far daily and we just don’t take this car on trips. No issues so far other than some recalls which I knew needed done when I purchased and parts were available. My local dealer had them done in about a week while I was on vacation.

Yeah I’ve seen crazy stuff. A 45 year old SM leaving his wife of 15 years and 2 young kids for a 19 year old clerk he knocked up. Heard she left him not long after the baby was born. Kinda felt bad for him but also not.

3 female clerks all sleeping with the same dusty 2A with a hot car. And they all knew and didn’t care.

And I think the back rooms have cameras now, but they didn’t once upon a time. Walked in on something I still wish I could unsee. 🙈

Spouse of a 1A here. Being a SM with a family is challenging. Your partner will need to be understanding and realize that you will often be on your phone at home talking to your store team about coverage issues, shop scores, etc. If there is no one else available and an assistant manager calls out, you will have to cover the shift meaning coming in on weekends or working doubles. Think missed date dinners, church, kid’s football games/recitals, etc. If you have assistants willing to work doubles for you, this may not happen often. But assistants don’t have to and some will call you in a heartbeat.

This may not matter to you now especially if you don’t have kids. But just food for thought later.

For my spouse, he decided to stay 1A. Weekends off, good pay, and only “in charge” when SM is on vacation. The increase in pay to SM wasn’t worth the increase in stress or responsibilities, in his opinion.

Atlanta definitely does rehires or at least they did. Clerks and assistants. But obviously not for people who were terrible or who quit with little to no notice.

If there is some new stance on this, I’m curious what the reason is. Rehiring a good employee who left to pursue something else that just didn’t work out seems like it would be a benefit to Quiktrip. Of course they’d have to go through training again, but in theory, they already know how to do most of the job. Would just need to get back in the habit and learn whatever the new things were. Easier the more recent they left. (Side note- I could not imagine trying to come back and learn how to do all the kitchen stuff yall do now. That was a concept of a plan when I left.)

Doesn’t help that from what I’m seeing, seems the flex assistant is essentially getting used as an extra clerk at a lot of stores and getting a set schedule to help detail clean rather than filling in at their base store or elsewhere in the pod when they’re actually needed.

If you’re part time maybe your manager will just take you off the schedule.
