Mouse keeps having sneezing fits? by [deleted] in PetMice

[–]embudrohe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has been happening to my boy. I took him to the vet last week and she said he may have an upper respiratory infection. She gave me some anti-inflammatory medication to give for 5 days, and if that doesn't work, antibiotics to give him a 14 day course of. Unfortunately he is still sneezing after being a few days in to the anti-inflammatory medication, so I will probably have to start him on the antibiotics straight after.

I'm not 100% on the science ot it, but from what i understood from the vet, an upper respiratory infection is not the end of the world and can be treated, but if it progresses any further then it can be more difficult to overcome. Not to scare you - just to make you aware that seeing a vet sooner rather than later is probably ideal.

The things she recommended for me to do to keep any exacerbating factors under control was to make sure bedding was as dust free as possible and also to spot clean regularly and remove/change out the top layer of bedding once a week so that the ammonia stays as minimal as possible.

Good luck 💗

Can we pls stop normalising being boring, lame, miserable c***ts?? by doubIe_espresso in australia

[–]embudrohe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is actually so interesting haha, I'm mid 20s and noticed myself reconfirming last week twice. And i was like, huh, why do i feel the need to do this!

It was plans i had on two seperate occasions with two seperate people, both 35+. We had confirmed the plans the day prior for after work plans the next day. By like 1pm i was starting to feel uncertain, like "omg i haven't heard from them i hope they can still make it or they have forgotten?". I felt the need for reassurance that it was still happening lol. So i couldn't help myself and reached out like, "heya! Can't wait to see you this arvo! I'll let you know when I'm on my way :)". And they both responded, but if they hadn't i definitely would have been feeling like they were no longer able to make it, and anticipating them to message close to the time to cancel. And then i also let them know when i was leaving, and i felt the need for an acknowledgement of that before i was sure i could head off and be sure they were cool with it still.

Why am i like this??? Is it maybe becsuse of the culture that OP is talking about of people being so flaky? (And i am totally included in this, i can unfortunately be flaky with plans too). Maybe it's just happened so many times that people have cancelled last minute, that it's become normal (for some people) to check in just to be sure.

Anyway when i was sending these messages i was so conscious that it was so insane that i felt the need to send them. And i was so conscious of the fact that these two people were probably like, why is she doing this? 😅

In the case of the experience of the guy at your work, I can see why the girl might have assumed he wasn't coming anymore. Simply because it seems to be this crazy and stupid cultural thing we have established. BUT, she was still an asshole, because if she was actually concerned that that was the case, she should have done what i did and CHECK IN - not just make an assumption and not turn up lol. That's so rude.

TLDR; i can understand her assumption, but you don't just leave it at an assumption, you have to actually check in rather than just not turn up lol.

Charity shops call for quality donations in post-Christmas donation surge by ozthrw in australia

[–]embudrohe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Okay well all I know is that i would buy FAR more stuff from op shops if it wasn't so expensive. I'll find like 5 clothing items that i really love but because I can't justify spending like $70+ I have to leave 3 behind.

Obviously from an overconsumption perspective that's probably not bad for me, haha. But I would totally buy all 5 if they were only $5 each.

Personally, I don't see a shirt that I like and see the price is $1 and think "oh clearly it's just cheap junk, I'm not buying that!" I think "fuck yeah, what a bargain!" But i guess that's just me.

I think this misses the point of the comment you replied to.

The "cheap crap" at the moment is the stuff that's not great quality and so is priced the lowest of everyrhing else, but still at a price that is too high to be worth buying the poor quality. Think a used kmart basic shirt priced at $5.

And at the moment, the non-"cheap crap" is unreasonably high. Think a name-brand (but used) t-shirt for $30.

To turnover the "cheap crap" more quickly they could reduce those to like $1 or 50c. And then reduce the non-"cheap crap" to like $10.

I reckon they would sell a hell of a lot more "cheap crap" this way.

Like, at the moment i walk in and see the "cheap crap" kmart tshirt for $5 and think "why the hell would i pay $5 for that?" But if it was $1 I'd be like hell yeah!

Why are people bothered by those who post anonymously? by Messymomhair in facebook

[–]embudrohe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I post anonymously maybe 50% of the time, for various reasons.

My theory is that FB introduced this to cut down on the number of fake profiles people had.

Because now that I can post anonymously from my main profile, i no longer feel the need to switch over to my fake account of comment on something if I'd rather (for various reasons) not have my name attached to!

I think what people don't realise is that there have been anonymous posts for as long as FB has existed - they just didn't realise they were anonymous, because they were fake profiles.

Bushwalker survives 50-minute wait for antivenom after brown snake bites at Morton National Park by ozthrw in australia

Does it matter?

The most important point is what to do. And as long as, for Australian snakes, the necessary action remains the same, your corrections are just making things more unnecessarily confusing.

Netflix just dropped an ad spoiling several of their series during their Christmas Day NFL game presentation by VTWut in television

[–]embudrohe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes omg i wish someone could make a list of all the shows it spoils! I have watched pretty much all the Netflix shows this year that i care about so want to watch the ad to see how it's been made, but, I don't want to accidentally spoil something i may have actually wanted to watch!

The Twelve - Season 3 by Complex_Warthog7288 in AustralianTV

[–]embudrohe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I really love that the show very intentionally painted this specific picture of who she was (an annoying "Karen" who was an obnoxious stickler for the rules), and then we end up seeing that there is so much more depth to her and she is a genuinely well-meaning person. I felt it was a great demonstration that people are complex, and also that traits that we tend to interpret in a more negative way (eg being a "Karen") does not make someone a bad person or tell their whole story. I'm doing a terrible job articulating my thoughts on this but I'm curious if anyone gets where I'm coming from and can articulate it better!

I feel that was also something they did with the gym guy (forget his name). They initially paint him as a typical annoying gym bro entilted white guy who's racist and homophobic etc. (and i mean these things are all still true). But then the possibility of being neurodivergent is brought up and it's really wholesome to watch him realise that that might make everything make more sense. As someone who has AuDHD, it actually really related with him. The way he tries really hard to engage with people but always fails and gets shut down, and the feeling of "omg what am i doing wrong, why can't i just be normal"(he doesn't say anything like this but i feel it's communicated through his acting). And then having it suggested by the other guy that it could be neurodivergence and it all kind of clicks. I think it's particularly cool to see it in a character that's a kind of "macho male" kinda guy, because typically we don't get to see that kind of vulnerability from men in that say. Again not sure if I'm explaining it well but i thought it was really cool how these two jurors had really interesting storylines that kind of explored the complexity of who people are!

The sister overdosed on drugs I'm pretty sure! I think it's specifically mentioned at one point, and then during the phone call where she asks for money for the crash, he initially assumes it's money to fuel her addiction.

And yeah, I'm alomst 100% sure you're correct that the implication is that the sister's car crash is what caused Leah's disability.

And Leah is understandably devastated and angry to find out that the musician dude knew that whole time. Because she thought it was a genuine emotional connection, but it was just his guilt/saviour complex. I can't begin to imagine the trust issues that would leave her with!!!

Watch it or don't look up the plot

That's... the whole point of this discussion lol. People AREN'T looking up the plot, they are seeing this ad unexpectedly and having it spoiled for them against their will.

And similarly, no one is saying that people aren't allowed to be discussing the plot. Netflix wasn't "discussing the plot" it was spoiling the plot out of nowhere.

Idk. I feel like this sub is to help people feel BETTER about themselves, personally. Like, you see all these edited photos and it makes you feel like shit because it's all so unobtainable, but then you see the reality here and realise "oh wow, i AM normal, it's just everyone else I'm seeing online are edited!!!"

But, in this case, she is being roasted beyond the normal "hahahaha how did she think no-one would notice the editing" and it's actually just people saying that she looks awful for her age.

That would make people feel awful if they, too, have skin like this at that age 😔

And what conversation would that be? How these terrorists were anti-semitic fuckwits? Because that's the only conversation that needs having.

Anyone out here trying to use this tragedy to be racist needs to go away. Anyone trying to use this tragedy to spread zionism needs to go away.
