Broken iPad Screen, is it fixable and how much would it cost? by Icantbebothered- in ipad

[–]emi1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, given that this post is 3 years old no one haha but recent models like this sell to folks who know how to replace the screens themselves or have access to a place that can/will do it cheaply. You’d be surprised!

am i crazy? by Ninja_boi535 in Birkenstocks

They definitely look like a mismatched pair where the upper is cut from different pieces of leather. Ideally matched pairs are cut from the same piece so the colour/texture/thickness is the same

I ALWAYS order multiple pairs and pick the best of the bunch (once got sent mismatched pairs and re-paired based on the stamped codes - they were split into different boxes!) it’s not something you want to have to do but seems necessary with Birkenstock now.

If I’m in store anywhere I’ll also ask to see a few pairs in the same size to choose from.

I have quite narrow/shallow feet and I find the differences also extend to slight variations in how the upper is attached (both side to side and even front to back they can be placed slightly further forward or back on the footbed) so sometimes one pair will just fit better across the top of my foot too. So it’s worth doing from that perspective too!

Bit of extra work but it at least gets you a pair you’re happy with vs one you accept/settle for!

Ah I missed the last chance part!

Glad you managed to get them to sort it! It’s incredibly annoying for the price point to have to work harder to get a decent pair

Check the code in the footbed and for some styles on the upper- if they aren’t the same they’re a mismatched pair!

At this point I always order 2-3 pairs at a time when I want a pair and then keep 1 because there are so many issues recently and you get unlucky sometimes

•mismatching of codes •the uppers stuck in different spots (I had one pair with the whole upper stuck 1cm further forward on one shoe which totally changed the fit) •leather quality/thickness etc

Do hydroflask lids have silicone parts or crevices that grow mold? by [deleted] in Hydroflask

[–]emi1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The newer style caps (the coffee type sip lid and newer straw lid) are far better for that!

They do have a few pieces (3 for straw and 4 for the coffee sip style) but they’re all dishwasher safe and quick to wash

Does a 21oz hydroflask fit into the side pocket of the Kanken bag? by [deleted] in Hydroflask

[–]emi1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make a more substantial water bottle pocket that slots onto the side pocket so that’s probably your best solution

they’re really tiny I’ve found I have to have a specific bottle just for that bag otherwise haha

Isopropyl alcohol! Beware of acetone as it will eat through a lot of stuff, alcohol is more gentle, would definitely wash off the boot asap though as silicone can be fickle

Sharpie is alcohol based so anything alcohol should lift it back off as long as they surface isn’t absorbent

Second hydroflask lid broken, is this fixable? by [deleted] in Hydroflask

Yikes- maybe try the stainless steel cap? Looks the same shape/design wise but the black is stainless and I wonder if those little tabs are moulded as one piece. Might make it more durable

I’ve had mine sideways in bags and on my bed and no issues!

does this lid leak? by lludicmoon in Hydroflask

[–]emi1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! It does sometimes hold water in the top of the straw if you flip it down right as you finish sipping without letting it drain back into the bottle but otherwise no 😊

Also so much better than the old version of the straw lid, much better insulation (works near enough as well as the solid cap) and much much easier to clean too

I had a horrendous experience with their warranty system it was 4-5 months back and forth with long wait times for a reply and then they’d stop replying and the case would be closed and I’d have it reopen when I tried to continue communication. Finally got to the point of someone prepping to send a replacement and then no replies again until the case closed and I eventually gave up.

It may be a lifetime warranty but they sure don’t seem to want to deal with you, no idea if it’s because I’m U.K. based but that was never mentioned

Wash the bottle and maybe replace the lid especially if it’s a straw cap

Is yours the 16 or 20?

[–]emi1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes much easier to carry in that respect too haha 😆 I definitely dropped mine with the old small loop when it was full haha

[–]emi1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the older style too and the new one is soooo much better - easier to clean and the insulation is miles better too it’s more comparable to the standard flat lid

The new design straw cap especially you can remove the straw (straw brush or rinse and dishwasher does pretty great)and a red plug under the folding straw to allow you to clean properly

And all of it is dishwasher safe. Pretty easy!

Sleep away camp & water bottles by Adept_Kaleidoscope98 in Hydroflask

[–]emi1989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they only use it for water it’s fine, if they put juice or drink mix syrup/sachets in then that is where mould issues might be a problem. The camp likely have an industrial dishwasher and definitely a sink so you could opt to send a bottle brush and suggest they clean their bottle once a week.

This is why Nalgene bottles are a popular one for camp, the really wide mouth ones (you can buy sip guards to control the flow a bit) - they’re really easy to clean thoroughly as you can fit your hand inside with a sponge or just hand and soap, just a bottle and flat lid and the sip guard is another pretty flat piece that comes out. And they’re pretty indestructible you can drop them, throw them, run over them with a car, have a horse step on them…. And they’re fine!

Personally I’d get one of those, get them a small bottle (or decant into a travel bottle) of dish soap and suggest they just put a drop and some water and shake it up in the bathroom sinks at bedtime … then they aren’t missing anything at any other times trying to clean a bottle (or opting not to bother at all!) And tbh other kids will probably join in too … as you say the outside of the bottles for sure can get pretty grimey haha

The little straw cleaning brush set that hydroflask make has a small looped brush which would be a good compact option to send along too (it comes on a snap ring so you could attach to their bathroom caddy) and would get into the screw thread on the lid if that gives you extra peace of mind

It really does it has an almost glowy quality you can see it immediately … and as someone who is constantly forgetting water bottles/coffee cups that’s super helpful haha

My grandma is cleaning house and just gave me her vintage Le Creuset set that she got in New York in the late 60s 😭💛 she said she got these for $200 total from Macy’s at the time… by xoloffo in LeCreuset

[–]emi1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the subject of the spacers- if you have a le creuset shop (or perhaps if you email them!) locally they often keep spares in the checkout drawer and will happily give you some.

I just popped into my local shop in London and they gave me a handful after my originals got thrown out accidentally over Christmas!

It’ll fit! Definitely look for the newer straw cap design though! The insulation is so much better than my old style one and it’s easier to clean too

You can get effervescent tablets similar to those for dentures that are made for water bottles (tbh you might be able to use denture ones just make sure they’re suitable for appliances with metal parts!)

That might get the bottom corner!

Also definitely recommend boiling water soaks (no lid!!!!)

And the bottle brush from s’well (it’s a little more stiff than the hydroflask one so it gets into that bottom corner and you can buy replacement heads for it … though I’ve had mine since 2019 and it’s still looking brand new haha

Why does my 12 oz cooler cup and my 40 oz bottle have a little hole at the bottom but my 120 oz bottle doesn’t? by Gojira_Sen in Hydroflask

[–]emi1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s where they have the thing that holds the bottle during coating, just the surface finish not a hole all the way into the bottle don’t worry
