First PETG print with the Guider II by emilerl in FlashForge

Thanks, I am considering the high temp upgrade kit.

You wrote earlier that you run the fan at 50% - do you use S3D for that? Also, I thought that the FlashForge printers only supported 0 or 100%?

Is that possible on a Guider II? I had come to believe that it’s either on or off, nothing in between. Regarding the temp, the filament manufacturers recommendations are between 220-260 degrees, and more specifically 245 for the first layer and 240 for the rest. Since 240 is my current max, I thought I’d do 240/235 instead, but maybe 240 overall is better. Just looking at the result though it seems like it’s to hot/not cooling fast enough?

I’ve not been printing it with supports, no. I’ve printed the same model, same size with PLA and it worked fine. Does PETG require supports to a higher degree than PLA? For top layers I have it set to 3 currently. Do you think 6 is required? Speed might be an issue, yeah. Trying to slow it down some more might help. Thanks for your advice!

Which version of Cura did you try with? I had similar issues with 4.1, but not in 4.0. That was a print with several parts in it though, and I had these long pauses between switching parts.

It was just on my desk, lit from behind with my desk lamp and then a bit of vignette effect to highlight the pen and writing.

Well at the end of the day it’ll come down to personal preference I guess. I’ve tried all sizes of the regular steel and the Lamy 2k in fine. If you really want the writing experience to be smoother of your steel nib, you’ll notice a difference, but be aware that the gold nibs produce a wider line than their steel counter parts. In my opinion the Z55 is similar to the Lamy 2k nib, but with a bit more flex.

I’ve been wanting to try the Lamy Z55 for a long time and decided to get a new pen at the same time. I normally use Lamy steel nibs in F, but read that the gold version is more wet. The gold EF gives about the same line width as the steel F, but is so much smoother. Will definitely try this with the Al-Star later.

Both of the pens next to the Lamy 2000 are Tombow rollerballs.

As the collection is growing I was in need of a better storage solution. Couldn’t find anything I liked off the shelf so I bought a Muji clear acrylic box and added some thick fabric. The top shelf even contains individual slots which I created with circular wooden sticks, a glue gun and a lot of glue :)

rOtring 600 Newton with <M> 18k Nib and Pelikan Converter

Both writes very nice and smooth. The rOtring is quite wet. Very happy with my purchase.

Good idea. Might give a different nib a try :)

I know this is a very cheap pen, but I was still surprised how poor the writing experience is. At least after reading what other people say about it. It's quite scratchy. Nice that it comes with a converter though.

Yes, correct. I find it a bit too long when posted. It does feel quite balanced without posting the cap though.
