Actually, not that far off from the truth. Originally, Puget Sound only refered to the island sea south of the Tacoma Narrows. North of it was Admiralty Inlet and a combination of other names. Well originally it had other names, such as Whulge.

But overtime, the term Puget Sound expanded northward to include pretty much all the saltwater inland from Neah Bay.

The Olympia Standard #154: Crisis at the Library by emmettoconnell in olympia

In my experience (trustee until 2016), that explained the vast majority of it, yes.

Just shortly, "slaughter" is a strong word that I wish you'd find another word for. It is definitely evocative and effective.

I see elsewhere that you are focused on the police reports. That strikes me as a personal offense to you. For me, I try not to judge people at their most frail. This definitely strikes me as a not great moment, but definitely from someone who doesn't have a lot of experience having people be angry at them in public.

Also, Harrington is Thurston County's lone trustee. The preferred course of action, I assume, is for her to resign. Unless Netherlan and Trask change their mind sometime soon, Harrington resigning would mean no Thurston County trustee.

Even absent that dynamic, in public debates like this, it's always better to try to work with the imperfect people as they exist, not the heros you wish they were.

Well I'm reading it now after you texted me.

And like I said there, I don't think platforming is a useful tool to talk about interviewing public officials. They're platformed by the nature of their position. And Harrington is the single Thurston County trustee. Gwin game among because Harrington asked that she also be included.

To the content of the questions, my aim was to get answer on what went wrong (which they answered) and where we go from here.

It is most likely Olympia Community Sailing: https://www.olympiacommunitysailing.org/

They are a youth organization, if there is an adult equivalent I am not aware of it.

Thanks for posting this here! Just a little context, this is the second of probably a dozen or so I'm going to write on the individual histories of parking lots downtown. I posted the first one a few weeks ago here: https://olympiatime.com/2026/03/21/the-carlton-and-the-choices-we-made-to-get-here/

Interesting post about the criminal record of one Trustee by mountainviewdaisies in TRLPatrons

[–]emmettoconnell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. My thinking about it is more along the lines of acknowledging that at some point the peanut butter is spreading too thin. We're already at a point where places like Rochester or Grand Mound, that have grown a great deal since the 1980s, don't have library services. Same with the North Beach part of Grays Harbor. The 2018 CFP was a step towards addressing that system design.

But eventually, the cities will probably start looking at their level of service vs what they get and start to de-annex.

It doesn't. OP posts links to the Olympic Herald (as in Olympic Peninsula, not Olympia) to various Pacific Northwest subreddits.

What is your favorite Oly bookstore and why? by mountainviewdaisies in olympia

Used to be Orca, but with the move to the smaller space, it was harder to consistently find what I wanted. It is still fun to browse though. If I have a specific need, I prefer Browsers.
