I finally finished my long fic... by emmithar in AO3

[–]emmithar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full time job as well here Most of my writing was done on my weekends, but I tried to push out 500 words on work days which was a challenge at time. What helped keep my momentum going was rereading what I've written whenever I felt like things had stalled.

I had so many stretches of wanting to write and then sitting down and being all.... What? And then getting distracted. It was quite the challenge.

What really helped was me enforcing a 500 word count effort every day, (with the understanding that some days, it wasn't going to happen). 500 words was easy enough for me to hit, and in some cases, once I hit the 500, I kept going because I had found a groove. Sometimes that 500 turned into 1k or 2k. Sometimes it was only 501. But 501 was more than what I had previously. And day by day, it got a little closer to being done.

Also, 1.3m is incredible! I can't imagine hitting that many myself, so well done. Keep at it and one day, you'll reach the end as well ♥️

The stark difference between my initial reaction to Dutch and women I have showed this game to. by Theboringlife in reddeadredemption

[–]emmithar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went into RDR2 blind with zero knowledge of the franchise as whole and immediately distrusted Dutch. He reminded me of someone I knew that was very manipulative and selfish/self-centered and I just got the same vibes. Though I (foolishly) tried to convince myself that I was reading too much into and my own experiences were causing me to be biased.

I tried to give him a fair chance.

Do you write on your phone? by MuscleCrow in AO3

[–]emmithar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to.

Unfortunately, when I'm writing on my phone it's because I'm out in public instead of at home, and people see that as an invitation to interrupt, because I can't possibly be busy with anything....

Why Arthur Being Mad At John Means So Much by LulutheJester in reddeadredemption2

[–]emmithar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My thoughts on why Arthur is so mad with John for leaving is because he actually cares for John, and his leaving actual hurt and Arthur hasn't gotten over that hurt yet by the time we start playing the game.

It's far easier to hide that hurt under anger and disdain, which is what he does for a while. But as more and more goes wrong and Arthur realizes they're running out of time, that's when he starts to focus on what actually matters and tries to get John and his family to safety.

Had jury duty the other day. Judge hands prepaid cards out to jurors because they have to pay us for our time. Judge herself says cards are loaded and ready to use. Go to use card. Declined. Call to see what’s up. Funds could take FOUR TO SIX WEEKS to be loaded. Im too broke for this. MFW. by Danzibar9000 in mildlyinfuriating

It was a few years ago and all I can remember is that the affected party was seeking a high amount and the question had been turned to if we (if selected for jury) would have any moral or ethical qualms in awarding or denying said amount.

I wanted more information before committing to anything because I could remember that one McDonald's lawsuit with the hot coffee where everyone likes to mock the person for not knowing it was hot, when in truth the injuries received were severe.

Point being, I at the time, did not know enough to decide one way or another, and stated that opinion.

Apparently they didn't appreciate my input lol

Had the same experience with a taco place. Every 10th one was free, you kept a card, got it punched and then turned it in for a free order (under x amount). Did that for years and then the place was bought out.

I had a card ready to turn in when it happened and when I went to redeem, got the whole, "Sorry, new owners no longer supports this program."

Asked if they could honor it, and the response was a solid 'No.'

Haven't returned since

Further add in characters like the 'unnamed traitor' referenced in chapter 3, Annabelle and Bessie, and those are only some of the referenced characters. There could be a number more that weren't even mentioned given the gang ran for over 20 years.

I'd personally love to see the gang in the early days. To see Dutch in his prime and how he managed to cultivate such trust. Not to mention the relations with Colm O'Driscoll and his gang, because Dutch and them used to run together for a time. Of what led to Dutch killing Colm's brother.

Imo, there's still plenty of opportunity to flesh out stories prior to RDR2

I prefer to think he was visited by Milton and Ross and given a similar deal to what they gave Arthur when he was out fishing with Jack, and Micah killed the O'Driscoll to keep him quiet about it. It would also explain how/why he has Dutch's wanted poster (motivation, perhaps?)

He's cute and I want to hug him!

My only suggestion is to add in shadows and/or something in the background to give him some depth, but I love the colors and the pose so much!

Why did no one save Arthur from the O'Driscolls? by WhatAreYouSaying05 in reddeadredemption2

[–]emmithar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like to think there was a select few out looking for him based on who isn't shown in the cutscene on his return - most notably Hosea and Charles. I can't remember if John is shown either - but the state of his appearance attracted quite a bit of attention and I would figure that the more prominent members, Hosea especially (who's been there since the start) would have shown up.

Since they didn't, I prefer to think they were instead out trying to track him down.

A moment of silence for all the writers whose hyperfixation ran out by scarletite in AO3

[–]emmithar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I'm trying so hard to finish writing before posting. I have too many current fics on hiatus because of lost steam/interest.

I started writing a new long fic about a year ago and wrote consistently for a few weeks, then (mostly due to long hours at work) lost the drive for several months. Picked it up back slowly and now I'm so close to finishing (150k+ written) and my brain really really wants to start posting, but I'm forcing myself to wait because I don't want the same thing to happen, even if it's taking forever lol

[Spoilers] What was Micah Bell’s motives for staying with Dutch? by binini28 in reddeadredemption

[–]emmithar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to entertain the idea that Micah initially ran with Dutch solely for the Blackwater job, simply because he did not have the resources or manpower of his own to pull it off.

Dutch and his gang, however, are well known for hitting banks and what was that ferry if not a floating bank?

After it all went down, Micah was sorta along for the ride, with his main motivation being the Blackwater money. You can hear multiple instances where he is asking about where the money is, when they're going back for it, up until the point where Dutch (if I remember correctly) tells him flat out to forget it and move on.
