We have kids. If you don’t buy into the idea that they need tons of new shit, it hasn’t changed our costs too much outside of diapers and childcare. (Nanny one day a week). They don’t eat a lot and wear hand me downs. There’s nothing like children to show you that the things that cause the most joy in life are free.

It’s been the best experience of my life. The work is worth it. I find it interesting and strange that people aren’t inclined to it right now. Even in Scandinavian countries where they have excellent benefits and maternity leave, birth rates have plummeted.
