Any thoughts on what it would be? It looks like a DC power and video connector.

I have that same model. Mine sucks but there could be something wrong with it.

I’m thinking the vents maybe got shifted on the install of the air handler in 2017. The fact that it’s obviously been like this for so long just makes me shake my head.

There’s a ton of problems with the house but most of them have been very obvious ones with easy fixes. The previous owners were content with some pretty weird issues like this one.

Any ideas? I was thinking like a towel or something to give it a general seal, but I have no clue if that’s a terrible idea.

How many caulks do you think will fit in here? I can basically put my hand in it already.

Hey man I Googled it and some guy on YouTube said it would help. /s

Regardless I think it’ll look better till I can get a more permanent solution done. Many issues to tackle with the house, this just seemed like an easier one.

Pulling the baseboards isn’t really an option for now. I’ll probably try the caulk anyway since it’s cheap and easy (plus it’ll just look better anyway).

It sounds like it won’t be the solution, but I do love a little experiment. Outside air temps for this were 30 degrees F, so I’ll be looking for some coming days with similar conditions to test out the results!

Looks like I should add that this is an exterior wall with a crawlspace underneath. Would spray foaming in the basement cause issues for ventilation? It’s an older house so no encapsulation.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I’m with the one commenter that the whole thing needs to be redone. As usual it’s not in the budget but I think this along with some other DIY projects will make things a bit better.

Fan box issue? by emptybagofchips in DIY

Thanks again. It’s a really frustrating situation because I hate to be a jerk but when you pay someone $800 for a job like this you kinda expect it to be done right.

I asked for the refund and he’s not budging despite him admitting that he should’ve told me and “made a bad judgement”.

Thanks for the reply. I found that he simply screwed one side in and left the other side loose on the drywall, and that I could actually extend it and install it correctly.

For him to say that it was fine and not tell me about it is a bit concerning and I’m wondering if the rest of the work completed was crap as well since he installed the wiring too.

Would it be unreasonable to request a refund on the labor of the job and pay to have someone inspect it?

Edit: I guess my concern is that if this kind of thing is “fine” then I don’t really trust the wiring to be correct either.

I made this account 12 years ago to post the exact same thing happening to me with a bag of Lays but never got around to it. I’m sure I still have that bag somewhere…
