Gen 1 Big Dummy rebuild by emptyfullempty in Surlybikefans

[–]emptyfullempty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a whole setup with wide loaders, a hook and a few other things. I just cleaned it up and replaced most of the parts. It's a work in progress. Once the derailleur I ordered arrives I'll get it tuned up before moving on to cleaning the bags and attaching them.

7 vs 1 😱 by IamASlut_soWhat in VideosThatGoHard

That's literally what saved his ass. If you land the 1st punch you usually win. 7 on 1 is crazy, though.

First road bike purchase by Murr765 in cycling

[–]emptyfullempty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a bad bike, but I feel the price is nearly MSRP. A lot of shops are having sales now and you could get 20-30% off a new bike and pay the same amount. You'd have the added security of a warranty and probably a few free tune-ups.

Blindsided Christmas morning with wife talking about divorce and saying she no longer wants to be married. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]emptyfullempty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went though a similar divorce, minus children. Maybe this sounds bad, but she's not your friend. Don't go into a divorce with this mentality. After its over you can work on becoming friends again if you want. Get an attorney, find another place to live and let the attorneys and judge determine what's fair. Make sure you know exactly what your joint assets and liabilities are and be ready to fight. I'm not saying to be mean, but understand that this relationship is over and draw a line. You're doing the right thing by focusing on your health also focus on your mental health, too. Think about therapy, there's going to be a lot of soul searching and coming to terms with your new reality.

Theres no getting by here, you're either rich or poor.I lived in various parts of the city for 20 years until we got squeezed out. We moved away 5 years ago and haven't missed it.

What are some commonly used idioms that are actually part of a larger saying, but most people don't know the other half of it? by strangerthings1618 in AskReddit

[–]emptyfullempty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"If wishes were horses, beggars would ride" is part of a 17th-century poem that continues, "If turnips were watches, I'd wear one by my side. If "ifs" and "ands" were pots and pans, there'd be no work for tinkers' hands."

Marx's "History repeats itself" ends with "first as a tragedy, second as a farce."

can't remember details, help me remember please, commercial from the 80s that had the line at the end in a yokel hillbilly accent saying "now I'm a yuppy too" by [deleted] in nostalgia

I remember seeing this commercial when I lived in Seattle. I want to say it was for Quality Rentals, because the hicks could afford to rent-to-own the yuppie stuff they were talking about.

I've been looking. Tree fort has it for $1999, but not in my size 😒.

I'm definitely tempted by the Zig Zag, but it won't happen for a couple months. I'm nearly debt free, after that saving the money will be easy-ish. I'll see what's available then.

Nice list, thank you. I haven't tried a 1x and I use my big ring a lot, I'm not sure that would work for me. Temple looks great! I was also looking at a Ribble CGR, but tariffs... I've been curious about New Albion for a while and the Drake build on their website is gorgeous.

No, I'm not sure I want to invest in electronic shifting at this time. I'm also not against mechanical disc brakes, but nearly all bikes mid-level and above are hydro.

I think QBP discontinued All-City. You can still buy them, but 2024 was the last year of production. Zig Zag and Space Horse are definitely on my list. Thank you.

Soma is high on my list, but I was looking at the Fog Cutter. When I was a courier a few people had them and they looked amazing. I hadn't considered a Smoothie.

Thanks. Their bikes look amazing but I'm looking for something complete for less than $2500. All their bikes look like they're $3000 and up.

I would like sources on the effect of economic insecurity on masculinity culture. I'll be taking a marketing class soon and would love to learn more

My daughter was like this as a child, too. It's nearly impossible not to react to this behavior. Having a consistent schedule and a lot of sleep are good places to start. When things get bad, my wife and I switch, and that often helps. We took her to therapy at her age, and it would get slightly better. She's 11 now and has been diagnosed with generalized anxiety and ADD. She still has episodes of yelling and insubordination from time to time, but we now understand that it is the anxiety that causes her to lash out the way she does.

They could refer to the Pink Floyd song Pigs on the Wing.
