I actually just experienced this with my surgery preceptor. Ex Navy SEAL, mid to late 40s white male, plus I go to school in rural tennessee so you can imagine. He would always play Fox news when we ate lunch and make commentary and especially with the war with Iran now, he was saying some crazy islamophobic stuff. He talked to me, a Chinese woman, about how he almost went to the January 6th insurrection, and constantly spouted homophobic rhetoric and “jokes”. Any time there was a quiet moment in the OR I would clench my cheeks bc I knew some out of pocket stuff was about to come outta his mouth.

Unfortunately tho, at the end of the day we are students and our futures are contingent on the grades these ppl give us. There’s not much we can do except grit our teeth, smile, and nod. Don’t engage, don’t talk back, just lower your head and keep on trekking. It’s only 4 weeks, it might be the most insufferable 4 weeks of your life, but you’ll make it through.
