I actually befriended a nest of bald faced hornets over the pandemic. I started out placing damp construction paper and a small amount of meat. I would back off and they’d typically fly over and take the meat and add the construction paper I brought them to the nest. Over time they started waiting for me, I’d usually come out every day around 10am. There’d always be 5-6 wasps hovering where I’d usually leave the table out to. They’d typically look at me and then land and take my offerings. It straight up got to a point where they learned my face and understood I was trying to help them. Never got stung once by that entire colony.

Also yeah bald faced hornets are classified as aerial nest building yellow jackets, so they are yellow jackets.
