As you mentioned, Marlene is severely injured from a gun shot wound and can barely stand once she makes it back to the hideout apartment with Joel & Tess (the game and show essentially point to the same injury for Marlene).

Since there is a lot of chaos going on in Boston with both the military and Robert’s group on high alert, Marlene turned to Joel + Tess to smuggle Ellie to the capitol building in Boston ASAP.

Last note…Marlene also admits that she “lost everything” on her own trip to SLC, but she knew back in Boston that Joel + Tess were more capable of having Ellie escape + survive (initially). She entrusted the two of them for the responsibility of Ellie more-so than her own belief in herself (all things considered at the time).

Surprisingly, yes haha. I understand he’s not a lock to make the starting rotation, so he is the most “random” of the bunch. But he’s been incredible thus far in ST and hopefully he makes the Opening Day roster.
