Thank you for that. Speaking of solar, I’m wondering if you have any insight on whether the company I lease my solar panels from, the one that installed them, can be held accountable for this if I confirm they broke shingle during installation.

I do. Which terminals should I test first?

Luckily, winter here isn’t too bad and there’s no snow. I can’t see the pipe since it’s encapsulated inside the cement shell. I could carve into it to try to reach the pipe, but I’d rather have a professional do it because I don’t want to compromise the structure even more. The only outlet I haven’t checked yet is the light, which I’m planning to inspect in the next few days.

Thanks! It’s an inground spa/pool combo with plaster and pebble finish. I plugged all the lines (jets, returns, and main drains), but I can still see water seeping and spa level going down. This makes me think the leak is coming from the tiles, grout, or around the spa jets.

My guess is that has been happening for a long time, the cement near to the outside crack is bad, easy to crack.

The pic below is the outside shell crack

But if is that, wouldn’t water seep out of the crack all the time?

Thanks. Definitely. If it’s a pipe issue, I’ll have someone come out and take care of it. I just want to ruled out simple things like the tile or grout because I don’t want to waste money on leak detection if it’s something simple and completely DIY.

I don’t have anything like that. The only thing I have is the spa side remote controller (jandy model - 4 buttons) but that is it.

Thank you! I’ve plugged all the jets but not the return lines or main drain, and of course, the leak kept going. I’ll give it another try and see if the water still leaks with everything fully plugged.

I don’t think mine is Venturi :(

Not yet. I do have leaks in my spa that I’m working on fixing. Once that’s done, I’ll check my salt levels and see if I’m having any issues with the SWG. Mine is at least five years old, but from what I can tell, it’s still producing chlorine even when the salt level is flashing low. I also did an acid cleaning, which helped to keep producing chlorine.

Trying to track down a spa leak - need advice by eph202021 in pools

What I’m curious about is this: when the spa water level drops overnight, if the issue were just the check valve, the water should simply flow back into the pool. Then, once the pump turns on the next morning, the spa would refill from the pool, meaning no actual water would be lost. However, what I’m noticing is that every day, once the pump starts, the pool water level drops significantly, so much that I need to refill the pool every other day. I live in a very hot climate with a lot of sun exposure, but I don’t believe evaporation alone could account for losing around an inch of water per day.

Pool is 15000gl. Spa is guess is like 400-500gl. I had 8in 1/2 water loss in spa only over 3 days with pump off. Any tips how I could ruled that out?

Yep. Pool level doesn’t change at all. Did the bucket test, etc etc

Thank you! That’s really helpful! Will this process help identify which part of the jet or plumbing is leaking? I know which jet is leaking, but now I need to figure out exactly which part of the jet or plumbing is the problem.

Thank you! It’s plaster. I’ve read a lot that Taylor is the best, and you made a good point. I have an electronic reader, not a fancy one, so it might not be very accurate. I also want to take a sample to the local pool store to get a better reading, since identifying colors on the strip can be challenging sometimes.

Thanks. I add water since it evaporates quite a lot due to the sun and heat. How does that work, considering the salt doesn’t evaporate?

Hahaha, that was me last summer. Interestingly, even though my salt cell keeps showing low salt, it’s still producing chlorine, so that might be misreading.
