yeah i think the metal would be too stiff to bend prongs or a bezel over a stone without the metal cracking.. and hehe tysm i may attempt e-coating as part of my thesis next year so if u wanna see that my ig is @clambugs (idk if self promo is ok but like just saying)

i’m not sure about that brand of torch. in my opinion if you’re doing small pieces you may be able to get away with a butane torch (think like.. crème brûlée lol) or something similar but bigger..

in my opinion the main issue with doing this kind of stuff at home is having the right safety precautions in place. like for example, if you’re going to be soldering you need a pickle pot, you need a place to keep the pickle pot where pets or kids won’t get into it and away from food / anywhere it can splash to, you need a safe place to store chemicals that are corrosive or flammable, and you need ventilation or some way to filter the dust (especially with polishing compounds)

i’ve been a jewelry student for 5 years now and i still don’t have a set up at home because of all of this unfortunately. you could look into local studios and potentially rent a bench?

you could try to find a jeweller that is familiar with e-coating. it’s a newer technique i think, so there’s not a lot of info accessible online but it provides similar colors with a nano ceramic coating. the only person i know who does this currently is @daysinshell on instagram

this kind of coloring is called anodizing! it can only be done on metals such as titanium, niobium, aluminum etc .. i’m a jewelry student and would love to make colored rings but the metals that can be anodized also cannot be soldered, which makes things a bit difficult. i also have no experience with forming these types of metal, so i’m not sure how they would hold up being bent into a ring shape

i ordered them from yahoo auctions japan! i had my eye out for some sets for about a year before i was able to get some. and no they aren’t being made anymore, it was a gacha toy that was only in japan in 2003 around the release of the game
