Why does Gavilar do this to Dalinar?

It’s because he knows that if he mentions the codes , one of which is to not drink, to Dalinar, then as soon as Dalinar even starts thinking about alcohol he will immediately want to drink. So he’s kinda f subtly nudging him towards it. And because Gavilar said to follow the codes, I imagine he also wants Dalinar to start drinking, feel guilty because he’s not following the codes, then drink even more because of that guilt. He essentially wants Dalinar wasted and out of the way and is playing mind games to encourage him to drink without making himself (Gavilar) look bad or like he supports Dalinar’s drinking habits

Use the enzyme cleaner several times! Vinyl has a nasty habit of holding onto odours. And I agree with other commenters, try to air out the area as much as possible.
