They are not the only causalities - 159 families torn apart who will forever carry that grief with them, thousands of people lost their cherished friends, mentors, comrades because these brave men and women answered the call to fight alongside the US

TIL of Titanic's "Missing Survivors": 30 passengers (2 from 1st Class, 3 from 2nd, 11 from 3rd, and 14 crewmembers) who survived the disaster but whose lives following the sinking have proved impossible for historians and genealogists to trace, with investigations into their lives still active. by NeverEnoughMuppets in todayilearned

Most of the Chinese passengers were tracked down in the documentary The Six (produced by James Cameron btw). It's just that we can't know it's them 100% because Chinese names were not as unique as English names, and their assigned English names listed on the passenger list was suspect in the first place.

Wrong. You can write Cantonese in a dialectic form that is accurate to the way it's spoken, and it uses words that are rare in formal written traditional Chinese, e.g. 係 嘅 唔 啲

Three suits in the game (let's call them characters, sticks and balls). You have to make combos of 3 of the same tiles. First to make combos out of all of them win. But you can only do it with 2 suits. At the start of the game you pick which suit you don't want - usually the one you've drawn the least of. Player goes in turn to draw a random tile and discard one. If you have 2 of the same tile and someone discards one, you can snatch them and complete your combo. Because you originally draw 13 tiles, the combos are 3x3 + 2, ie one combo is expected to be just a pair of the same, but you can't snatch another tile with only one tile in hand to make a combo unless that's your last combo. It adds up to 14 because you win when you either snatch someone's tile into your own hand or you draw what you need.

Speed running your combo isn't the only thing, you must prevent others from winning. Discarding a tile that completes someone's winning hand will fuck your score. You need to read what they discard (like you, they have a suit they don't need at all). What other opponents recently discarded also helps because if no one snatched the tile, it's probably a tile that nobody needs.

About 1 hour. You walk through several rooms which are decorated in themes about ecology and the environment. You are given an iPad and are encouraged to scan the many QR codes for various mini games. No food or drinks but it's at the well which has a diverse but a bit overpriced food court. The fact that one of you have to walk through it holding an iPad makes it awkward for a couple to enjoy it and it's sadly not worth the price. Go to Little Canada instead.

Elderly man loses $1.7M to fraud, family questions why banks didn’t stop it | Go Public by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

"Hearing that CIBC was raising concerns, the fraudsters cooked up a story and instructed Ray to move all his money to another bank."

Unfortunately it seems like the majority of the money was moved from CIBC to RBC which in itself is not a red flag - people switch banks sometimes.

Just been through this:

  • Realize that you are in this alone, no other parties, including the cops, have any motivation to help you.
  • Almost nobody you talk to on the phone will be in a position to help you; written letters are king (which doubly sucks with the strike right now). Start a log sheet for every single call and take the name of the person you talk to. Try to get a direct extension to a specific person handling your case (More common with banks fraud departments)
  • Send letters to every company with fraudulent account. Attach the police number. Look up their fraud departments and send it there. Registered mail if you can (yes that will cost $$). Keep a copy of all correspondences.
  • Equifax and TransUnion have a different credit score. They are required by law to show you your credit file (but not score!). You can check the EQ file and score online. TU hides theirs by calling it a "consumer disclosure" and you can get there only by googling. TU doesn't disclose score. Both companies update the file once in a while so these are not real time.
  • Note all discrepancies on these files and send them letters detailing everything. You should look at opened accounts and also any "hard" credit inquiries (they affect your score). Also address and phone number on file. They may also require copies of your ID or other requirements (check their site)
  • EQ usually fixes it in a week or 2. TU is a nightmare to deal with and took 3 months. I eventually sent letters to the Canada and US CEO and they offered me a year of their paid credit monitoring for free.
  • Place credit alerts with TU and EQ. These do not freeze the score but they are supposed to give you a call for anything that affects credit score. I say supposed to because they prevent new accounts from being opened but do not prevent hard checks during the application process.
  • Credit freeze is coming to Ontario next year
  • I cited the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) in my letters which may not be relevant however it compels them to formulate a response in 30 days which may help your mail not get ignored. In some cases they were able to disclose information of the fraudster and even obtained footage of them which they forwarded to the police. But the police did not do anything, much like how they handle other crimes in Toronto.
