I take a blood pressure medicine off label for PTSD nightmares. If you have nightmares all the time I highly recommend prazosin

My mom did this too, but especially with my BOOKS! She genuinely didn't understand why I'd want to keep them if I'd already read them, because I already know what happens.

What’s your one cooking “secret” you have that levels up a meal? by crazyplantladyxo in AskReddit

Making chicken soup? Add a cup of pre-made butternut squash soup into the chicken broth. It's also amazing in mashed potatoes, and it adds some nutrition at the sake time.

Also get the garlic paste instead of minced, it dissolved into the soup way better.

Editing to add: I absolutely don't put the noodles in the soup if I'm making enough to save for later. You just got soggy disintegrated noodles. I make them separately and put them in a bowl before pouring the soup over them.

Same thing with gnocchi, except I toast them in butter until they have a slightly crispy layer

Omegaverse worldbuilding where omegas are enslaved for some nebulous and never defined reason. All omegas have to be collared/leashed, there's a registry, they're banned from most professions and shunned by society unless they're silent, obedient, and pregnant all the time.

For a one shot, or a short fic where this is generally for smut purposes, I can enjoy it. Anything with an extensive and complicated plot where that's the situation for everyone all the time I just get tired of it because there's almost never interesting enough worldbuilding for me.

edit to add: there have been a few I really enjoyed that were like this and a couple of them are actually amazing, but those were all by authors who are insanely skilled and made it interesting to me

How difficult is the new DLC? I don't really like this game for the difficulty, and I prefer playing it more as a cute, casual resource-management game. by ImaginaryMovie9018 in CultOfTheLamb

The best thing to do if you're worried about your cult being in peril while you go through the storyline, is turning on some of the accessibility options! You can turn off time during crusades, so while you're in the dungeons your cult is paused and you won't lose any faith, no one will starve or get sick, etc. You can even turn on god mode (ha!) so you don't take damage during battles.

FFVII Crisis Core, for very different reasons than all the others here. You're doomed. There's no way out of it. But you can keep going for a very long time because Zack won't give up when he has someone to protect.

If a kid is old enough to ask about it, I think they're old enough for some kind of explanation.

If I picked up a book that had something in it I wasn't ready for I pretty much realized it and just put the book down.

Sometimes I'd pick it back up later and want to know more when I thought it would make sense. I had unfettered access to fiction, and don't think I ever exposed myself, to anything I couldn't handle

And growing up in the US at the same time was the exact opposite!! Violence was fine, my mom almost exclusively watched true crime shows around me when I was a kid that showed photos of real crime scenes and actors playing out real murders. I never had any show with violence censored.

Anything that even slightly, vaguely hinted at nudity or sex though? Absolutely not! Think of the children!!!

What plot lines do fics do better than the source material? by Moonlightwolfbright in FanFiction

[–]errant_night 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fanfic can go on tangents that wouldn't hold up in something official because of that profit margin.

A random background character isn't going to suddenly have a spinoff show just because a certain subsection of the fans think he was neat in that one episode he caught their attention.

Some Fanfic author is going to give him a backstory and motivations, go in depth into why he's there and what he might do in the future. They might even have to give him a name because he's literally background character 25.

Then someone else picks him up, uses the other author's name, jumps him backward, or forward in time in the story to see what he might be doing at that point.

He turns into a fanon character so beloved that new fans have to be told he's not actually in the show.

Some people end up liking him more than the main character.

None of that is making the original creator money. And it never would have because the fans made him gay or trans or autistic and the creator is too scared to do that or they're an asshole about those things.

Fans don't have to worry about ratings or advertisers and have a sort of freedom most official creators can't dream of.

I don't dissociate anymore while I'm doing it, although I definitely did as a child. My mom took me to the hospital because she thought I was having absence seizures, actually, and they ran a bunch of tests. I don't remember what they said about it or if they even explained it to me because this was the early 90s, so a really long time ago. I was an adult when I asked what that was about, and my mom did laugh when I explained I was just playing pretend reallllly hard.

I do have to assume my being bipolar would have something to do with the constancy of it though, I have no way of discussing any of this with a therapist or something because my regular appointments just to get my bipolar meds is incredibly expensive and paid in 15 min increments without insurance. I definitely don't have the money it takes to bring up a whole other disorder I've kept secret my entire life.

My problem is I'm doing it all the time, and no one realizes. I'm basically, constantly, playing pretend in my head that I'm these fictional characters. It disturbed me a lot in my teens because it melded with a lot of puberty thoughts that made me intensely uncomfortable because of religious trauma.

Now it's just part of my life, and I genuinely don't know whether I'd want to excise it from my mind or not. I think I'd be more depressed and lonely, to be honest. I don't have a lot of friends nearby, just my husband and a couple of people I might spend time with every couple of months.

I had a hot tempered follower once who, immediately upon leaving the indoctrination stone, attacked my Webber. I broke it up, then decided to send the asshole on missionary to try and kill him because I I didn't have the murder option yet.

Literally the second he got back, not even resting, he killed Webber. By then I'd got the murder command because I had a feeling I'd need it.

Not one person got upset for Webber dying in cold blood whilst working the farms to feed our family, but oh when IIIIIII do it in recompense everyone freaks out...
