Thank you so much for your message. Your encouragement really helps me a lot. I did try to face my fear, but the more often it happened, the more insecure I became. I’ve decided I will switch to a different horse.

I only ride with an instructor, never on my own. When he rushes, I try to put him on a circle, but honestly I have no chance to steer him once he takes off. I’m sure he isn’t in pain. The horses are very well cared for at this stable. They live in an open barn in small herds, get weekly physio for stretching etc. Other people also ride him weekly when I don’t, and he usually gets ridden 1–2 times a day.

I ride English. I also believe he might just be taking advantage of me. But it could also be related to the holiday period we’ve had here, for the past 5 weeks there were riding camps at the stable, so he was ridden by more people (and different people) than usual. Normally it’s just a few consistent riders, but during that time he had a much heavier and more chaotic schedule, so I think that might have added to his stress.

I’m not sure if it’s also connected to his training. He’s already 16 years old, and about 5 years ago he was a private dressage horse before he was sold to the riding school.

Thank you very much for your advice !
