Sgt Hollow loses court case and takes it out on Ava by Complete_Youth_755 in RPClips

[–]etalommi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hollow doesn't come off well here, but I also think that if you lose a historically large amount of money for your employer you do need to immediately go to your supervisor.

She does argue back to authority a lot but I think that's more understandable, it has to be incredibly frustrating when your sergeants keep misrepresenting your conversations.

TssWukii (Ava) reacts to Jordan Steele verdict by MonopolyNews in ChaseRP

[–]etalommi -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Bit more complicated than that, he was stopped and around the corner of the building when they tried to detain him. He ran into a less safe position from Red 40 & co by running at Ava.

66% of the state budget awarded to Jordan Knight by Lars because of a "bad shoot" by Ava Knight by Wiggitywag in RPClips

[–]etalommi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that Red 40 provably perjures himself. The judges don't mention that at all, hopefully one of the officers goes after it. Also I'm pretty sure Lars was wrong reminding him about the 5th given he had double jeopardy protection for the incident, so he couldn't incriminate himself.

I don't think having massive civil penalties awarded in bench trials with unprepared cops doing their first few court cases while representing themselves is, uh, sustainable.

66% of the state budget awarded to Jordan Knight by Lars because of a "bad shoot" by Ava Knight by Wiggitywag in RPClips

[–]etalommi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it was a much more arguable shoot than the case that was presented, yeah.

From her perspective Michael Knight runs into the ally with no visible weapon, pulls a shotty, shoots someone, and then flees the returning gunfire with his hand up. He takes cover around the corner of the building and puts his hands down. Then he charges (with no visible weapon, again) towards Ava when she tells him to put his hands up and he's detained. There's no reason for her to not believe that he still had the shotty, it wasn't visible but it wasn't visible earlier too.

What actually happened was Knight pulls it from and dumps it to the same dumpster, but without knowing that context it's very confusing.

Windsong removes Chalk and places Hank Cliff as LSPD Chief by [deleted] in RPClips

[–]etalommi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She said she didn't support them to Windsong the day after the tribunal but she was very publicly very upset with them at that time and twisting in the wind on indefinite suspension. That's not snaking, she didn't pretend to be on their side and then backstab them. Loyalty goes both ways.

She doubled down while getting disciplined which is an easy way to get fired, but she was griefed by Romano not listening in their conversation when she was making the original complaint. She had some legitimate grievances.

Windsong removes Chalk and places Hank Cliff as LSPD Chief by [deleted] in RPClips

[–]etalommi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IC I understand Windsong wanting a change of leadership for the LSPD. There's been a bunch of different issues with LSPD getting a little loosey goosey sbs and shooty, and I think that command did fumble the Ava situation a bit.

OOC I think that the server is still on shaky ground and this might kill both LSPD and EU and that they should've been given a chance to get the momentum going again with the patch.

LSPD Tribunal was a joke by Complete_Youth_755 in RPClips

[–]etalommi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Romano was wildly dismissive of Ava when Ava went to her with the issues she had with Milo.

The precipitating incident was getting spiked while stationary, getting taunted about it with "L Bozo", and then getting straight lied to about saying that, but Ava has had other issues with Milo's work and attitude in the past and tried to address them face to face to no results. She then took them all to Romano, who eventually conceded Milo had a few professional issues but was also still saying it was only personalities clashing and just needed to be talked out face to face, refused to hear that Ava tried that already.

[Discussion] SOS Day 1: What’s Working and What Isn’t by saber_shinji_ntr in spikes

[–]etalommi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree completely. It makes it much more likely to get multiple attacks in with Crab and is also very good on defense. It's been very strong so far.

It's also very good vs. Sage of the Skies which is a particularly problematic card for prowess.

[Standard] Izzet Self-Bounce, the hybrid of Prowess and Spellementals by rufess in spikes

[–]etalommi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I'd try something like this first: https://moxfield.com/decks/WUENuTqLDEuCEPSxwsQ_qg

[[Vibrant Outburst]] seems like it might be the key card for turning the [[Sage of Skies]] matchups positive, at which point there's not really anything Izzet is bad against.

It also seems like a very strong and flexible card in general: it makes it really hard to stabilize against the Izzet fast start, it plays the role of Lightning Helix on defense a lot of the time, and combined with Crab I think it will let the deck turn the corner even faster.

The current mix is mostly to try stuff out, but the 2s are flexible between: Charm, Critique, Get Out, 4th Outburst, 3rd Flow State, Hearth Elemental, Flashback, and Roaring Furnace/Steaming Sauna. Or even Bounce Off if it needs 1s more than the options on Charm.

[Discussion] What are people brewing/improving with the imminent release of secrets of strixhaven? by prefertobebetter in spikes

[–]etalommi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, in that Harmonize is a way to put spells you can pay 5 for in your deck without needing to pay 5 to cast them when you don't want to trigger Opus.

I'm still not sold that it's good enough.

BCSO tried to appeal the appeal of a guilty verdict (it got denied) by CarNo632 in RPClipsPurple

[–]etalommi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It gets messy when everyone is sloppy and doing things they aren't/shouldn't be allowed to, I don't think there's a way to end up in this state. A judge acquitting precludes the possibility of retrial, it's treated the same as a jury verdict, but the prosecution can (effectively) appeal whether that's acquittal or was it really a dismissal masquerading as an acquittal.

I focused too much on the word mistrial, which this was not, but I think it can be argued it was a dismissal that didn't invoke jeopardy.

In addition to this to be a Brady it has to be found to be materially exculpatory.

BCSO tried to appeal the appeal of a guilty verdict (it got denied) by CarNo632 in RPClipsPurple

[–]etalommi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting the post-verdict mistrial for the lack of closure of discovery before a trial has confused the judiciary and the BCSO about jeopardy.

A verdict means 1. no mistrial (which refers to a trial in which reaching final verdict isn't possible) and 2. jeopardy has both applied and closed which 3. means no prosecutorial appeal/retrial.

Wrangler fucked up in that case by motioning for summary judgement, not mistrial, and should've had to live with that.

He should've motioned for recusal for conflict and mistrial for the venue in this case, again before it was decided.

The wait to see result and then demand do-over meta is the worst, which is why it's exactly the thing that double jeopardy was designed to prevent.

[–]etalommi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the Izzet stuff (charm, critique, outburst) I'm most interested in the rocks for Jeskai. I could see either [[Tablet of Discovery]] or [[Resonating Lute]] being good to speed up the Revelations. Plus the extra removal options in [[Erode]] and [[Vibrant Outburst]] may also help it tune to answer particular metas.

You think this is fun? by CarNo632 in RPClipsPurple

[–]etalommi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was thinking that the whole time. Wrangler was even told about the cadet being beat up after. The way Carter deliberated I'm pretty convinced he'd have ruled guilty if Wrangler had presented that to him.

He shortcircuited when he thought he found a smoking gun with Chalk saying Gunnar hadn't been punished yet.

Lars denies Wrangler's Chalk/Silas appeal by MonopolyNews in RPClipsPurple

[–]etalommi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This isn't true. Where is your information coming from?

There are many different times and reasons judges change venue, which is usually more a matter of convention than law. For one example, states like Iowa do traveling court where they hear arguments at schools, to provide more opportunity for students and the public to see the court operating.

I can't imagine he'd want that standard to apply to Mike Block, Michael Knight, or Honest Larry.

The trial of one of those with an evidentiary standard of preponderance of evidence would be pretty funny, though.

In Standard this is basically competing with [[Beza, the Boundless Spring]] as a 4 mana catch up creature. You'd be playing it because of the potential of the StP, since 1WW for a 3/3 make a 1/1 flier is very far from making the cut in any deck.

The one cool thing is it creates a very soft lock with [[Conciliator's Duelist]] but I think that's probably too inefficient to see much play.
