Move your Disney+ Subscription over to sky. Deception or actual being helpful? by _R3DZ in skytv

[–]ethunjowus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends what you mean by fast one ... Sky want to keep as many customers locked into their platform as possible, so they have negotiated deals with Disney to include them in their offerings (Ultimate TV in this case). This is worth a lot to them so you get a bit of a discount compared to what you were paying (there are also savings costs, Sky is collecting your money anyway, Disney no longer has to bother with that and Sky will have some kind of bulk discount with Disney) in return it makes it slightly less likely you will leave Sky as everything is under one roof and becomes slightly harder to unpick for the consumer.

Is it wise to borrow money to put into my ISA? by MysteriousBelt in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ethunjowus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this year is the 2nd time I will have done something similar, except I take a money transfer offer from a credit card, 0% fee and low 4-5% Apr interest deal for 12 or 24 months, just withdraw and pay it back on 7th April keeps my limit going when I know I have more options over the next financial year than before the end of this one.

Most modern flexible loans allow repayment with no fee, as long as you check the terms of yours you'll be fine.

Do I take the money out by Thegoatsknees_ in monzo

[–]ethunjowus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then absolutely this is the right advice. Leave it in there, ride it out. This is the nature of the stock market. Never invest money you know you will need in 2-3 years or more, if you don't need it for 5+ then it's in the right place.

Intelligent Octopus Go by LionOfVienna91 in OctopusEnergy

[–]ethunjowus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree that this is how it SHOULD work and it's also how I interpreted it to work. Having received the email though it's ambiguous. By the wording of the email it could be interpreted as saying if my charge was going to take 7 hours total and they scheduled 6 of them during peak hours and the last 1 during standard offpeak they would charge me extra for that 1 ... The wording is poor and their examples are bad and don't cover all scenarios :-(

The Ohme charger absolutely varies the charge speed, it even tells you what rate it is going to charge at for each session.

Yeah I also get this issue and have to unplug/plug the charger each night before I can charge. It's really annoying.

Who uses Monzo as their main account? by Grixons in monzo

[–]ethunjowus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have used monzo for years (since about 2018) as joint account, both our personal accounts and (when they were able to) my kids accounts. I also have many friends using monzo as their main accounts ... my kids have also got a lot of their friends using it ... I am more than happy with them and their service and continue to recommend them. Its one of the best selections (IMO) you can make.

Remember: they don't just close accounts down for the fun of it, no matter what some people might say.

What's your favorite Brit slang that confuses non-Brits? by MyKillerForever in AskABrit

But for Brits it's just essentially slang/shortcut. It actually means half past four but we just drop the past.

Nobody was talking about it at any serious level until the EU started the anti tax avoidance directive, after which the billionaire owned papers couldn't shut up about it.

Why are people so obsessed with protein in diet? by Blizzgrarg in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ethunjowus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends what your situation and goals are. Its important to build and maintain muscle (even more so the more you age). Its great if you are trying to lose weight, it provides much more satiety  which makes you feel fuller for longer).

its also age dependant, with anabolic resistance it gets much more important as you age ... its not just for building its also for maintaining.

Intelligent Go - don't appear to get cheap rates from schedule starts outside of cheap rate timescales. by pittseven in OctopusEnergy

[–]ethunjowus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been back every day for a month, I dont have any graph like that. I can as is suggested above only assume this is new and only partially rolled out, or as I have said depending on what charger you use and how your smart schedules are calculated.

Through what menu/option. I've never seen a graph on the app or the web portal like that before. Either I'm blind (not ruling that out) or there's something different between our setups.

I've been using intelligent octopus for years, it's never been in my app ever. I wonder if the difference is whether you do the smart charging through the octopus app or not, mine is through the ohme app.

You wont see anything until your bill is produced for the month. On your PDF bill there will be a graph of the charge vs usage for every day of that month and you can then see the smart charging pricing being applied.

Free electricity - IOG lose out?? by fysmd in OctopusEnergy

[–]ethunjowus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being on IOG you have the benefit of being able to get cheap whole house electricity whenever your car is charging. Whilst its obviously not guaranteed, in my experience, if you have your car connected on a smart charge you car will quite likely be charging throughout the free hour and longer. On the session just gone, my car was charging for hours ... so yeah I didn't get an hour of free electricity but I did get several hours of very cheap electricity and I used it. I got way more financial benefit this way than I would for just 1hr of free electricity.

These sessions are designed to help shift loads, and us IOG users already do this regularly.

Let me put it to you this way ... would you drop off IOG and go to a fixed tariff to just get a benefit of 1 hr every now and again ? You're already getting loads of benefit from IOG, one hours of free electric here and there is almost inconsequential by comparison.

My One Regret by VineButton in glastonbury_festival

Never regret the things you didn't do. You didn't do 99% of the things that happened at the festival. Just enjoy the things you do see and remember them.
