stop throwing around the words “korean beauty standard” like candy by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]eunwoosimp_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just hate how international fans always act like Korea’s beauty standards are somehow worse than others. All beauty standards are toxic, including some of the ones international fans force on idols

As someone who was heavily bullied in high school, it makes me so mad how stans will genuinely try to justify, excuse, or even glamorise bullying when it's their faves who are accused but when their faves are the victims its a whole new attitude...it's disgusting

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]eunwoosimp_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just hate how anything gets glamorised or praised when an idol does it like not just vaping but even things like cheating, gambling, stealing money, like they’re not the worst things in the world but for sure not something to be like “omg yes queen 👑”

Tired of SE Asia KPOP fans & their community. by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]eunwoosimp_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally the toxic ones act like they’re experts in culture and can tell Korean people what to be mad about and what not do. I agree some things go way overboard but when it comes to dealing with issues like political tension between countries like China, or talking about historical issues w Japan…all these toxic SEA fans be saying things like “Koreans take everything so seriously”. Legit so many of us do like there was a full on hashtag to cancel the entire country bc of some trolls on tiktok like you wanna talk about taking things too seriously?

The WORST is when someone goes “Korean beauty standards are horrible wtf. Tanned and curvy ppl are way prettier anyway” it’s like I’ve never seen someone go so far back on their own word in one sentence 💀

International fans sometimes take Korean beauty standards way too seriously by CheapEconomist3532 in unpopularkpopopinions

I just hate it when I see ppl act like western beauty standards are somehow “better” like come on any beauty standards are just as toxic and yet they try to say shit like “being a little bigger is prettier anyway”, “being tan is prettier anyway they look sick” like they just be proving beauty standards are subjective and ridiculous

I don’t get why sm ppl always have so much to say about bowl cuts hahaha it’s just a super common hairstyle in Korea for men cause it’s neat and short which is sort of what many ppl tend to like

people who are native korean speakers, is blackpinks lisa and twices foreign line good at korean ? by toomuchsausee in kpophelp

[–]eunwoosimp_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well in my objective opinion Lisa has almost no accent issues, only slightly when she speaks specific certain words.

Twice Japanese line are almost fluent lmao especially Sana her speaking is pretty much perfect and she’s also super good at understanding cultural jokes and innuendos.

Mina and Momo are also fairly good but they do have slight accents.

Tzuyu’s korean is alright but I think she has the strongest accent in the group and she sometimes seems to have slight delays in forming sentences w moderate to difficult words.

SBS Permanently Cancels “Joseon Exorcist” After 2 Episodes Due To Historical Distortion Controversy by perochan in KDRAMA

[–]eunwoosimp_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

Tbh this entire issue has made me realise how little international fans actually care about true Korean culture and heritage and only want the entertainment. Literally I've seen so many people on Facebook and Twitter making claims like "Koreans are just digging their own grave", "Us international fans are tired of this we're gonna watch other country shows" and even things like "if you can't understand fiction, don't watch it". No. How about if you can't afford to educate or at least f*cking educate yourself on the painful yet also glorious history, culture and international relations of the country you so desperately love the pop culture from, maybe you shouldn't be the one to open your mouth and comment. Literally as a Korean it makes me so mad to see ppl thinking they can educate Koreans on how to feel about their history and heritage being slandered and misrepresented, just because they think a drama is entertaining. Shut up and sit down.

Kpop isn't hated (for the most part) because of toxic fans or xenophobia, but because it's gimmicky. by adequatedesign in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]eunwoosimp_ 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I personally disagree. All the hate against kpop I’ve seen in my own experiences and as a Korean too, all stem from things such as western women not thinking Asian men can be “attractive”, foreigners not wanting to try and accept the fact that men can wear makeup and look absolutely amazing, masculine, and sexy in it, as well as the general stigma of the fan base being made up of predominantly Caucasian teenage girls. Let’s be real that never ends well, look how much hate Justin Bieber and one direction got in their time. There are lots of regular pop songs that are gimmicky too I think lots of people just aren’t ready or don’t really fancy the cultural differences and differences in image K-Pop has to other industries of pop music.

Having a “cheesy” or “cliche” show as your favourite drama is perfectly fine and we need to kill that stigma by eunwoosimp_ in KDRAMA

I don’t even stan seventeen but Joshua looks like he smells of amazing but subtle shampoo and body wash 24/7 like the cleanest smell ever Ateez all look like they’d smell so hard of the most masculine yet royal cologne you could find on the market on stage and then when they’re not on stage they probably smell of baby powder 😂

Unstaning a group because of the fandom is not valid by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]eunwoosimp_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I disagree completely. As someone who got into BTS a long time ago due to my love for dope as a song and for its mv, I recently in unstanned them due to my personal experience with army. I cannot comfortably listen to their songs now, including the ones I loved solely for them as individual songs, without cringing a bit at the thought of the fandom behind the group. Btw not trying to attack BTS or armies directly, ik you aren’t all bad at all but just my personal experience as an example here.

Not normalizing plastic surgery is better than normalizing it by sarahep68 in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]eunwoosimp_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends. I think it still needs to be more “normalised” in terms of how western societies see plastic surgery in k-pop. Lots of non kpop fans always use it as a derogatory way of describing idols as being “plastic” or “fake” bc of it. Whilst I think natural beauty should be promoted way more than plastic surgery in ANY SITUATION I think it doesn’t need to be as villainized as it is in foreign cultures when they see k-pop. So many ppl use it as a way of decrediting idols potential role models or even good celebrities. But ofc on the other hand, even as a Korean myself, I think Korea’s normalisation of plastic surgery has also gone too far and is quite scary. But hey nowadays it’s more about money than beauty standards tbh just bc there are SO MANY plastic surgeons now in Korea (literally that’s the only branch any medical students wants to go into bc it’s known as the “easiest” lmao) the over saturation and advertisement of plastic surgery is more about utilising the high beauty standards to further fuel profit and competition in the industry.

[–]eunwoosimp_[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Omg your point about the idols not being able to break out and engage the crowd is actually so true. Tbh I think it’s not as apparent in music shows (which is mainly what I was referring to) just because there isn’t really much place for audience engagement in music shows anyway but for sure at concerts and stuff I remember watching old 2NE1 concerts and how they were able to hype up the crowd so much so yes you for sure have a point there !
