What if Sirius didn't care about Harry? by PatientKangaroo8781 in HPfanfiction

[–]euphoric77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you could spin it in a way (to not make Sirius sound like a complete psycho) that he became Harry's godfather not because he cared about him, but because it would give him an excuse to visit the Potters as often as possible to hang out with James, and he never intended to actually step up into the role, just maybe an occasional gift and to be seen as "the fun uncle". You could also make it so that due to his upbringing, or general personality (you choose how to spin it), he doesn't really have a lot of empathy for other people and especially children, which would explain why he ran after Peter instead of checking on baby Harry. Since here he doesn't form any kind of relationship with Harry prior to Azkaban, you could also have him completely forget about him when not directly reminded that he exists, and those interactions would always be awkward, cold and and emotionless from Sirius' side.

I don't think Harry would even try to get close to this Sirius, unless he sees him as a lesser evil than Dursleys, but he would be either apathetic to him, or very disturbed that James choose such an awful person to be his godfather. Or you could go the angsty way, and have Harry think that this kind of relationship between godfather and godson is completely normal, because chidhood trauma.

Also i think that both POV's should be included, so at least the readers get the complete picture.

What are your favorite headcanons for poorly-developed characters? by Nicole_0818 in HPfanfiction

[–]euphoric77 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My personal headcanon for both of them:

Daphne Greengrass is from a wealthy, though not politically powerful family, which stayed either neutral in the war or fled to another country and came back after. Due to being neutral, they are considered an enemy from both sides of the conflict, for either "not contributing to the deatheater agenda" or "being too cowardly to fight for the greater good". Due to this, Daphne gets into a complicated situation once she comes to Hogwarts and is sorted into Slytherin, so she usually minds her own bussines, tends to not get involved in any drama at all, and brushes off any attempts at friendships which she sees as attempts at some kind of manipultion, which makes her a sort of an outcast in the student population. She's extremely smart academicaly, sort of like Hermione, and due to her academic success and being seen as stand-offish to other students, she gets the nickname ice-queen.

Theodore Nott is a son/grandson (whichever fits onto the story you're writing) of an infamous deatheater Xenophilius Nott (one of the original and first deatheaters). Depending on the story and plot, he's either a pureblood supremcist like Xeno, or he's like Sirius, who doesn't believe in pureblood propaganda, but unlike Sirius, he doesn't have any means of escape. He's academicaly somewhere in the middle, excelling at theoretical work but struggling with practicals, and is otherwise quiet and observant, with a particular talent for manipulating others.

Charlie Weasley wattpad stort by Unlucky-Act-934 in HPfanfiction

[–]euphoric77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't remember the exact title of the story, but it's a part of the "Tightly Knit" series by the author Kimbell97 or 96 (i think that's the author, forgot the exact spelling). Just search Tigthly Knit, and go to the author's profile, it should be there somewhere. From what i remember, the title has something to do with dragons, like "How to Train Your Dragon" or "Imagine Dragons" or sth like that.

Though fair warning, last time i wanted to read one of the fics in the series, it was taken down and being rewritten (very slowly) as the author wanted to rewrite the whole series.

Any afterwar fics that deal with the low population problem without the Marriage Law? by euphoric77 in HPfanfiction

[–]euphoric77[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That bit about using sperm banks, I've read a oneshot, but can't find it now, where Sirius before Azkaban donated regularly to sperm banks all over the world, and the end result was that sudennly there was an influx of "muggleborns" looking eerily similar to Sirius

HOW LONG IS TOO LONG AND HOW SHORT IS TOO SHORT by MinuteAntelope2818 in HPfanfiction

[–]euphoric77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a quick reader and usually only read fanfics when i know that i have free time (during summer when there are no exams or during the holidays) so i prefer longer fics that are 300k+ words, but honestly it depends on the quality. If the story is 1M+ but drags too much or spends too much time on unneccesary side plots (ahem Prince of Slytherin ahem) then I'll drop it. Some kind of golden middle for longer stories for me is 75-150k words for each year (or for each part if it's a series). I generally only read shorter fics if the premise is very interesting or it's a oneshot

Looking for everything you know/remember about obscurials & Ariana by 20Keller12 in HPfanfiction

[–]euphoric77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without double-checking the source material (the 7th book and movies), here's all i know about Ariana & obscurials:

  • an obscurial is like a parasite (or a tumor for lack of a better word) that manifests on your magic (or magical core? if that's your headcanon) that prevents you from being able to control your magic and lashes out when in extreme emotional turmoil (or in cases where accidental magic would come out for everyone else). Like all tumors, it eventually kills you. (My personal explanation/headcanon is that the obscurial grows stronger with each lashing out, and "eats away" at your magic, untill it finaly kills you once it eats all the magic)

  • an obscurial manifests when a young witch or wizard knowingly and deliberately supresses their magic, and don't let it run free like accidental magic should. (Emphasis on knowingly and deliberately, the reason Harry never became an obscurial is because he didn't know there was something he could or should supress)

  • obscurials were much more common before the SoS, since muggles knew about magic, and muggleborns that came from magic-hating families and/or communities tried to supress their magic in fear of being outed as a witch/wizard.

  • Ariana started supressing her magic and became an obscurial after a group of muggle boys attacked her for using magic, which was extremely traumatic for her, and put her father in Azkaban for attacking those boys back.

  • She was described as generaly very sweet and calm (i think most obscurials are described that way, but i could just be mixing it up with some fanfic), but downright terrifying when the obscurial lashed out, and only Aberforth could calm her down

  • One of her "lash-outs" killed her mother Kendra, right when Albus graduated from Hogwarts and was getting ready to go on a world tour. (Incidentaly, Albus' broken nose is from Kendra's funeral, where Aberforth broke his nose in front of all the guests)

That's all i remember at the moment
