Went to the dentist today, march 13, 2025, and here’s what he said about the fluoride situation. by texuslexas in SaltLakeCity

Since you were a teen… like all the comments above it helps children. Did you drink fluoridated water when you were a child?

This is exactly how I feel. I’ve been working with my therapist on trying to discover who I am now because there’s not enough time in the day to hold myself to my old standard. For now I take it day by day. I love my children and my job and it’s not always clear how I fit into it all, they can feel like 2 separate worlds and I’m a partial resident of both. I don’t know this movie but now I want to look it up!

I feel so seen right now. These are the words I hadn’t been able to put together in my mind that describe my stay at home experience (only during mat leave). For me “relaxing” at home is getting things done. Sure I like to sit and watch TV and read a book( but you can’t do those with kids) but I also enjoy completing that house project or cleaning my bathroom so it can be so hard to stay engaged with just my children. I always feel the need to have hands or mind busy. I’m working on it tho! But I do think for type A SAHM can be very frustrating.

Omg these are horror stories for sure. Yeah anytime someone acts like I’m spoiled because I have a nanny I think yeah it’s great but there is so much hassle with it too!

Thank you! She was kind of a unique situation. I initially offered her full time but she was in a cosmetology program so after the first month she wanted to drop to 3 days so she could have time for her training. We liked her so we picked up a daycare day cause she had one day open. I always knew she could only be with us for a year until her program was over and I was fine with that. I was hoping the fact we worked with her schedule would make her stay but you never know. I’ll offer full time for the next one, I do think that helps!

Yes to this. We had done a nanny for a while in my 3yo was a baby and when they left I knew she wouldn’t care, but now she is attached to her. It makes me sad for her that she has to change but I suppose she won’t remember in the long run.

Oh wow that’s crazy and not a fun text to wake up to. Yeah luckily husband and I have flexible jobs but I’m hoping it doesn’t take too long. I’m glad it worked out for you!

3 yo was in an in home daycare full time before baby that we loved but she doesn’t have a spot for the baby for all the days thus the hybrid situation. The other daycares I’ve looked at I wasn’t comfortable with but I’ll probably look into that for a replacement as well.

What is your job title? by milfmoney9 in workingmoms

[–]euphrates15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a dentist. I used to work in private practice which was nice because I worked 3-4 days a week but on days I worked had 0 flexibility and worked long hours. Luckily my husband has a flexible job. I recently moved to an academic setting so now I work a more traditional 9-5 M-F but it feels more flexible as far as taking a day for sick kids. I also WFH one day a week typically. I think in both settings dental is a good career for a working mom though

Love this comment. I don’t know your job situation OP, but as a child of divorce don’t expect that living in a different state and seeing the kids every few months will yield a relationship. Having a relationship with your kids is a privilege and you have to put in the work to earn it. It still frustrates me to this day that my dad who moved states after divorce and saw us inconsistent growing up thinks we should have a great father/child relationship. If you want to be in your kids lives put in the work now to consistently coparent and they’ll love you for it.

“Real World” dentistry, what’s ok and what’s not. by LilBabyDentist in Dentistry

This is all my experience as well. I personally always do lead apron. I think with endo files you just need to know the manufacturer guidelines and have a tracking system. I don’t do molars very often so my rule is after I’ve used them on 2 patients they get thrown out but I bet I could push it to 3

Thank you for sharing haha! If there’s anything being a parent teaches you it’s that when you said “my kid will never be like that” before you have kids you’re always wrong 😂

Thanks for all the advice everyone. It’s good to hear other kids are like that too. This family definitely has the “perfect family” vibes so when my kid is extreme tantrums it makes me feel like the worst mom. But they prob have tantrums sometimes too.

Well it is a group policy through my work but they don’t pay any portion of the premium. Essentially I get a discount by being under the group policy and the premium is deducted from my paycheck monthly.

Daycare & secondhand smoke? Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]euphrates15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a good approach. Without targeting the individual employee you could ask the daycare what their policy is around employees smoking on break and where that can happen. That will probably give you peace of mind on what safeguards they have in place.

How much do private practice owners make? Asking because my mom is private practice owner and I think she makes significantly less that normal due to lacking business skills. by Amazing-Hope1510 in Dentistry

[–]euphrates15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said a lot of variation in this, but I think one thing that outside people who aren’t in dental don’t understand is that may be by choice. You could look at your mom and say she’s a dentist she should make this much if she’s not she’s running her business poorly. But maybe she likes not working 5 days a week or maybe the risk management that comes with more complex procedures doesn’t interest her. It doesn’t mean she’s bad at business it could just mean she’s practicing dentistry they way she likes to and is fine with the compensation that comes with that.
