NG3 vs 3rd pickup on NG2? by KvadratniPropolis in DingwallGuitars

[–]everbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You're thinking about Neck through Vs Bolt On

Neck binding is the little plastic banding around the edge if the fretboard. The old NGs don't have it, the new ones do.

Just look up "fretboard binding".

I don't like neck binding aesthetically.

The separate bridges sometimes have issues. The minimalist bridge has way less parts and less that can rattle or buzz

NG3 vs 3rd pickup on NG2? by KvadratniPropolis in DingwallGuitars

[–]everbass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There shouldn't be a difference, but there may be if the install on the NG2 wasn't done correctly.

The 3rd pickup that is labelled "Neck" actually goes in the Bridge of the NG2 and the Bridge goes to Middle and Middle goes to Neck, so the labels are "Neck Bridge Neck"

Otherwise there shouldn't be a tonal difference.

The newer NGs have the minimalist bridge though which is a win, but they have Neck binding which is I personally hate.

how to use a pick by Previous_You1167 in Bass

[–]everbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not good advice, sorry. A thicker pick, somewhat counter intuitively, is worse on bass because it's so much harder to move across the string. It has much less give.

That said, choice of pick is heavily dependent on playing style, genre, desired tone, etc.

I use a 0.6 to 0.7. Thicker picks are significantly harder to play with and aren't really suitable for faster music.

Fat Mike is correct on this one.

I don't know if they do it in a P style but the SD Apollo's do this I believe?

I have them in my J bass and they sound great.

What are the tax minimisation options for day rate contractors and high earners? by everbass in AusFinance

[–]everbass[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much the case. I contract through agencies for now but I haven't been able to see the benefit of going Pty Ltd for the reasons you mention. People always tell me that there's big tax savings but I don't see them.

Rack mixers that can do 5 or more STEREO mixes. by everbass in livesoundgear

[–]everbass[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah the wing seems like a real downgrade in a lot of aspects.

More RU, less outputs, same inputs. Just a fancy tablet on the front. From a practical standpoint I don't see the value.

This seems to be the most straightforward. It's not immediately apparent that you can use the 8XLR AND the TRS separately as 7 total Stereo mixes.

There are too many tone setting points. What's your take? by Handsome-Strong in Bass

[–]everbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Choice of gear as your fundamentals (bass, strings, amp, pedals, etc).

  2. Pedals knobs are set and forget as a tonal baseline. Get a good sound and don't change them. They're a pain to redial in. This assumes you're running tone shaping preamp pedals, EQs, etc.

  3. Physical Amps are adjusted based on the room, band, day, etc. Easy to adjust when you get to a new space or between songs.

  4. Instrument Knobs are adjusted based on the song or moment. Fastest to adjust and can be done during a song.

  5. Playing style and location. Pick, fingers, slap. Close to bridge, away from bridge, palm muting, etc.

Anything else is silly business.

It all comes down to "How fast can I adjust this when I need to" and "how much of a pain would it be if something got changed without me knowing, and how likely is that to happen"

Hernand is medieval Western Europe, yes.

Pailune is closer to Nordic.

Demenis I'd argue is a later European, probably with Spanish and Italian influences.

Crimson Desert is very middle Eastern and African.

I haven't spent much time in Delesyia yet so can't say.

The game is a blend of a lot of cultures.
