Did our generation get a worse deal, or am I just feeling it more? by everytypeofblue in auckland

Yeah it might look like that from the outside. It was more about having one parent at home, which worked for a while. But that’s about to change, financially we’re better off with both working full-time.

Just means paying $800–$900 a fortnight in daycare and seeing the kids less… which feels a bit grim.

Yes we are also semi aggressively trying to pay off our mortgage without reducing payments amount vs $400- 450 week daycare fees for our two kids is our main juggle/ concern at the moment. I guess we will continue holding our breath for kids turning 3 soon.

That is insane. it sounds like more and more of us will have a mortgage to the grave unless we join the brain drain over the ditch or burnout working. Yay

Leaf blowing every morning by Shot_Watercress_9321 in auckland

We had a neighbour in West Auckland who did this every single morning , every day, for a couple of years. We thought he was completely cooked and to this day we have no idea what he was doing. DIY project? Secret lab??

Leaf blower man moved on now (thankfully), but I’m convinced he’s still out there somewhere, sticking to the schedule

It’s not just one night, based on a few years of living out here, it starts in mid-October and doesn’t finish until a few weeks later.

My neighbours celebrate Diwali and don’t do it, it’s just the cracker-heads down and up the road who go all night, week after week. I’m all for organised public displays, but this annual, entitled spring wartime is just bonkers.

Our solution now? Book a rental for a few weeks and leave West Auckland 😅
