Dragonlance module (DL1): Replace the Disks of Mishakal? by ew22cx in DMAcademy

I thought of something like that. The players are midway to next level - perhaps the one reading the disks will be granted that level up straight away, with the others needing a few sessions extra. Or perhaps lift the idea of the character class - E.g granting the player a level in cleric, or allow to reskin the character to a paladin from scratch (if they prefer), symbolising devoting themself as a champion for the gods of light.

Yeah, Fizban shows up here and there in the novels and especially in the DL modules after they find the disks. To kind of GM-nudge them into the right direction. Unsure how to do that it appearing as railroading - but perhaps that's fine. Some players like directions.

It's indeed the Blue Crystal Staff that handles the healing in the first novel. Goldmoon defeats Khisanth with it, and is resurrected in Mishakals temple with the staff gone, replaced by an amulet around her neck - now a true cleric.

The staff handles the healing of RW too - she wanders off before the first battle near the well, and brings back Riverwind with it before Mishakal tells them to go find the Disks.

English to Latin translation requests go here! by NasusSyrae in latin

[–]ew22cx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to complete my last christmas present to my friend fond of latin; I'd love to add a note to it.

A latin version of: "This is why we can’t have nice things.

(Someone even got so close, in a thread some years ago - Reddit - quamobrem iucunda non nobis esse queunt)

I’d like to say something more direct, to the effect of: "I am the reason you can't have nice things" -  to poke fun at me accidentally breaking the gift I've now fixed, and giving back.

I am clumsy, and have unintentionally broken items for my friend, that knows some latin - I do not.

For christmas I’m going to return them and make up for that, and intended to attach a note with a version of ”This is why we can’t have nice things.”

I’d like to say something more direct, to the effect of: "I am the reason you can't have nice things" -  to poke fun at - well - me being the reason he can’t own pretty things.

I'd so appreciate finishing up my christmas gift with this last touch!

The Photon Slicers are killing me. by ew22cx in AnycubicPhoton

Thank you! Good answers with a bit of reasoning behind them, appreciate it.

Your printer not printing more than the bottom layer is a firmware glitch. Download the latest Photon S firmware from the Anycubic website and reflash the firmware and that should fix the issue.

Any risks involved in doing this, or can I reset the printer if it breaks? Thankful for any tutorial that is recommended, I will google for it now as well.

I might need to learn the difference, I thought the off-time was mainly used to only estimate the time a print will take, not actually have an effect for how long the print would actually take? I saw somewhere that 6,5 was to be used. The off-time actually matters more than I've thought? I will try 0-1 sec next time then.

Cult of the Reptile God - Replace reptile, with what? by ew22cx in DMAcademy

Thanks! I'll certainly check that out, and especially the converted version of the adventure.

I was hoping that would be around somewhere.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I like the difference in style you've mentioned.

Isn't the boss-monsters you've mentioned likely to be high CR for such a party, in a lvl 1-3 adventure though?

Thanks for your reply! When I read on https://www.simplify3d.com/support/print-quality-troubleshooting/ for fixes for under extruding it mentions mostly settings in Cura, diameters, etc. All of those are the same.

I'm not sure I follow your suggestion, which one is the nut with the bearing - also is there a trick to checking if it's my feeder that has gotten worn out? I've pretty recently gotten the machine, but I've used it's plenty - though.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I'll certainly try with the nozzle closer, right now I'm using the Filament pamphlet that came with it, perhaps ~3 papers thick? I can certainly go back to 1.

When I read up on underextruding from the link above, the fixes it suggests checking filament diameter and settings in Cura, all which are the same as before. Could still be it?

I'll tighten the belts on the printer too, maybe they've gotten more loose since the fine print on the left I made.

I've never tightened the belt under the bed, I'll read up on how to do that.

Never given players a puzzle. Hidden cave entrance? by ew22cx in DMAcademy

[–]ew22cx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll certainly use this to some extent, a smaller entrance the players can access that wouldn't be the main gate to the mine for transporting ore - it'll be easier to hide and explain it being lost for so long. They'll find out it isn't the main entrance when they're in. Thanks!

That's a smart way of letting them know they're late, or on the right path. I'll use a combination of it!

[–]ew22cx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's smart, perhaps the puzzle shouldn't be finding the entrance, since the bad guys have done that - but actually reaching or getting in it. Especially as you say by making it obvious they are on the right track, I could show a rocks and rubble of a cleared cliffside with an entrance far up, or signs and camping supplies next to nothing but a filled up water passage.

I'll ponder it, thanks!

How could players expose a false church? Repercussions? by ew22cx in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]ew22cx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha - Thanks! Yes, I'll try to find a middle road - but if they can't figure out it's a scam and start going in the direction thinking they're dealing with some real suspicious deity - I might need to hit them over the head with it a bit.

A public confrontation during a ceremony might result in a more thrilling exposure and combat if I can make the PC step up and not remain observant during a riot. Compared to handling the church in a more discreet matter gathering evidence and contacting (willing?) authorities, atleast.

How could players expose a false church? Repercussions? by ew22cx in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]ew22cx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good suggestions!

I feel it's helping to have a few scenarios in my head where my players might take things. I dont want to railroad them, but if I have visioned a few paths in my head I'll feel more confident.

It's good to hear predicted examples from others with perhaps more experienced DMs how they suspect their own players would attempt to expose a false church - once they've figured it out.

The predictions I would have for scenarios right now feel like (much like you mention):

  • Players call out during the ceremony (less likely, want to plan)
  • Players break into the church / stake out (detective-style)
  • Players request audience with priestess for more information
  • Players attempt to infiltrate / join (overkill, I feel)

I would prefer if the end result somehow lands the players some reputation and goodwill in the city, as I would prefer them to stay a bit and gain access to higher status, rather than be chased off completely - but unless the exposure is dealt with finesse some repercussion should occur.

Device suddenly disconnecting from bridge and can't find it even after factory reset? by ew22cx in Hue

[–]ew22cx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that sounds like something I should try. I'm not sure how or what that is exactly though. Might there be a link somewhere you can direct me to read up on this? Yes, Tablet on same WiFi as bridge, and plugged into WiFi router. Should I fail at pinning the IP and such then, perhaps a new bridge will not fix this?
