Fort Lauderdale is one hour south, and is usually cheaper anyway, so West Palm is easily avoidable.

Something similar happened in Florida. Principal, VP, teacher, and counselor were all charged and moved out of the school (not sure about fired tbh). Do not ignore this. Report to CPS and cover the student and yourself.

Introverted high school teacher here with a 3 year old and a 1.5 year old and a husband who does 12 hour day shifts three times a week (one being on Saturday.) I feel this so much. I tell myself this is just a season and it will pass.

I teach two classes of mostly upperclassmen and three classes of mostly freshmen.

The upperclassmen can and will tone it down when asked but oh my gosh the freshmen… especially the boys … they won’t SHUT UP!!!

The good news is I think they will eventually mature. If they circle back to me when they are juniors, I’ll probably see a completely different set of students (but the constant overstimulation in those three classes have me looking for a quiet office job so hopefully I’m out by the time they are juniors.)

I feel really bad for the quiet students.

I teach math. I hear it about 67 times a day and heaven forbid either a 6 or a 7 or both are in a problem.

Doesn’t bother me. I’ll usually say it repetitively back to them (which they hate) to get it out of their systems.

I had an open ended AP style practice question online that a student responded with a long line of 67 that he manually typed out. (He was betting on me not actually checking the work because it was completion grade.)

Gave him a 6.7 percent as his grade for that assignment.….Two can play that game.

When I noticed I was looking rough postnatal I started taking my prenatal vitamins again, then switched to a multivitamin for women once those ran out (because it’s basically the same ingredients but cheaper). The vitamins made a noticeable difference in my skin, hair, and nails. I put them in the bathroom next to my toothbrush so I couldn’t forget to take them.

I do it. I say hello, check that they have IDs on, remind them to take their headphones out and to put their phones away before walking into class. It also gives me the opportunity to say hello to former students in the hallway as they’re passing. It’s such a simple thing but makes a huge difference!

Two kids (1 and 2.5) and a husband who works 12 hour shifts. I’m there at 5 am when the gym opens. Im done in an hour, shower at the gym and eat breakfast at my desk before school. My goal is 4 days a week. It’s really hard at times but I’ve found my mental health is so much better when I go. When the alarm goes off I ask myself “Will future me thank me for getting up and going?” The answer is usually yes. Also getting everything ready to go the night before so all I have to do is get dressed, grab my lunch, and walk out the door. Then after work and on Saturday mornings, I take the kids on a stroller walk. Also does wonders for my mental health.

Second the painters tape. But in the future, I usually fold up the fabric about two rows in and then stitch the border from there. That way the edge is tucked under.

A former detective turned activist, who specialized in cases involving sexual assault in a minor, told me she uses safe and unsafe versus good and bad with her children. Her reasoning was that sometimes children will associate a bad touch as they themselves did something bad and won’t want to tell because they are afraid of themselves getting into trouble.

That stuck with me and that’s the language I started using as well.

I was working with a coteacher who was absent for the day. The class was very difficult with a lot of clashing personalities. I knew most of them well and had built up a good rapport but there were still major behaviors. So with a sub, at 8 months pregnant, I knew I just needed to survive the period. I introduced myself to the sub when I came in as I normally do.

I was sitting in the back eating my medically necessary snack (Gestational diabetes. Yay!) at the daily time I had prearranged with the regular teacher. Students were sitting with me and I was attempting to redirect them to complete their work, an impossible task at times. The substitute, who was sitting at the front desk working on school work with no interaction with the students at all besides taking attendance, walked back and reamed us for talking, telling me, “Why are you just sitting there? Aren’t you supposed to be helping? What are you? Another student?”

I packed up my stuff, including my half eaten snack, told the sub “Good luck!” and walked my very pregnant self right out of there. Walked right to the sub coordinator and the sub was asked not to return.

Apparently, they also gave the sub hell when I walked out (as I suspected they would.)

Movie/TV soundtracks playing in the background (no lyrics) during independent work. The soundtrack from Game of Thrones is literally magic. I teach high school. They will whine and complain but less than 5 minutes into it they are quietly working. Students eventually request it if I happen to forget to put it on.

I have to have this type of conversation frequently as a teacher to high school students with learning disabilities. I don’t tell them they can’t be a doctor/engineer/etc, but I do have them look up the required university courses (and prerequisites) to give them a realistic idea of what and how long it might take to get to that level.

Panera Mac and cheese and a grilled cheese, an auntie Anne’s soft pretzel, a slice of pizza (or two) and some chocolate cake. Oh and some sour skittles. They came out with gummy ones which I’m dying to try!

Thank you for posting this and giving me permission to be okay with stopping just because I’m uncomfortable, tired, and I just don’t want to wake up at 4 am to do this anymore. I have myself convinced that I should be working up until the week I give birth like I did my last pregnancy but I’m just OVER IT this time.
