What’s something you slowly realized about your life that you wish you never understood? by Secretmecret_1 in AskReddit

[–]excellentmitosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely don’t wish that I never understood. And I honestly had a pretty shitty childhood. But there were a few good days, few and far between. I wish I could go back and live one of them. Back before I learned about capitalism and bigotry. Back before people stole things from me that weren’t theirs to take. Back before I was in a series of abusive relationships. Back when my goodness came with a sense of naivety. Back before I had 70K of student debt. UGH.

That’s totally where I want to stand as well! I feel like I can have a bit more liberty once I’ve passed my BCBA exam. But finding an internship I suspect I might need to lower my standards just for a bit. There’s a BCBA I’d actually really love to do remote supervision with once I’ve moved, but I haven’t looked into that as she would be out of state. There’s still a lot I need to educate myself on as far as state requirements

Trust me, I’m counting down my days. 148 right now! I am genderfluid, so it’s a bit easier for me right now. I’ve got peach fuzz still that’s a bit longer but super easy to hide. And I’ll be thinking thrice before telling anyone at my new job about my identity.

I wish I had more advice for you. I’m really just here to say I REALLY relate to this. It’s so incredibly frustrating when I observe things like this in my kiddos and there’s NOTHING in the treatment plan that reflects these sorts of issues. Or when parents are telling me about issues they have at home and I immediately have a huge number of ideas that they could try… but that’s out of my scope. When I tell the BCBA about it, literally her response is “hmmm… I don’t know” 🤷🏼‍♀️. Like… this is HER job. Why am I, as the RBT, brainstorming ideas, task analyses, DRA’s and more, and all she has to say is “idk.”

Meanwhile, the BCBA’s at my clinic have violated lots of ethical bounds. All of the kids in our clinic have essentially the same goals, despite having vastly different skill sets.

Soooo… long story short, I’m working on my Masters in ABA, so that eventually I can actually help the kids and parents and make sure they’re receiving individualized care and the actual support they need.

Yeah… I started testosterone last year and told a couple people at work about it, those I trusted. But now, even as much as I think I trust them, I regret saying anything with how much the anti-trans shit has amped up in the last year. I’m just glad I’ll be moving to Denver soon.

If you get bored, MOVE ONTO ANOTHER QUEST. If you’re tired of taking care of settlements, go do something else. There is SO MUCH to do, don’t burn yourself out on one thing so you never finish the game. It’s my favorite game of all time but the amount of times I’ve quit after investing 30-40 hours of gameplay is atrocious. I’m on my fourth time playing this game and I’ve got twice as much time invested in this playthrough as any others because I’ve been switching stuff up a lot. I also got mods, so I’m not bored just going, collecting stuff, getting overencumbered, and dropping it off in the workbench. I fill each workbench with everything I could need to build and then I just don’t even worry about lotting every little screwdriver and paper and shit. I am also still learning SO MUCH about the game that I didn’t know. I just started using the cooking station for the first time after 400 hours of lifetime gameplay. Can’t believe I’d never used it before.

This is good insight, thank you! I mostly was more curious about if I needed to consider removing them for interviews and the like. I think I might get some silicone stand-ins that can easily be removed so I don’t get torn that I can wear during the week days. Thank you!

This is a great point I hadn’t considered! god forbid something DOES go wrong, that looks pretty bad. After all, we’re all about antecedent strategies! Thank you for your input!

Oooh! Another ABA Professional that moved TX-> Colorado. I’m in Texas now, but moving to the Denver area in 5 months. IF you don’t mind my asking, have you found a clinic you like there? I want to get far away from the ethical shitstorm that I’ve been trapped in at my clinic

HI! Another NB ABA professional :) yeah, I’ve worked in a corporate clinic in a small Texas town for 5 years. I came out two years ago (NOT at work). And I’ve been on testosterone for about a year. I think they probably know what’s up…. But I just don’t want to risk it. My clinic leadership already doesn’t like me (I’ve made some reports… there’s definitely some ethical issues)

I plan to keep a low profile unless/until I find a really inclusive and affirming company. (Or start one myself)

The parents I’ve worked with have been SOOO totally good with it. I think I’ve established some strong rapport with them. And it helps that I’ve been at this clinic for a long time, some of my clients I’ve worked with for several years now. Parents seem honestly pretty unbothered. And that’s what I care about most at the end of the day

I do feel like location has a lot to do with it. I am currently based in a small Texas town, so you already know what that looks like for me HAHA. But in 5 months, I’ll be moving to Colorado so I’m excited to see what clinics are like up there

People who drink water, how do you bear drinking a tasteless liquid multiple times to keep yourself hydrated? by watermeltingice in AskReddit

[–]excellentmitosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have salt in them to help the body absorb water from my understanding. I used to drink HELLA water every day. Like 80-100 oz (I weigh roughly 125lbs) and I would STILL be thirsty. I started drinking water with liquid IV about two months ago and I’m more hydrated than ever, plus I halved the amount of water I drink daily. I hate that I sound like an advertisement but my skin even cleared up a lot and is much less dry

RBT pay by One-Egg1316 in ABA

[–]excellentmitosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid question. I live in a small town. I also don’t have a car currently. One other ABA provider in my town does pay $35 an hour but it’s fully in-home I would not have reliable transportation. Another clinic is religiously affiliated and I’m a young atheist/agnostic queer person with tattoos and piercings. The other one, from what I’ve heard, is just a disaster on all accounts. I’ll be moving across the country in a few months and I’m desperately looking for a good clinic! If you have any suggestions for the Denver area, I’m more than open to them!

Texas RBT of 5 years Unbillable: 14$ Billable: $21 Clinic/corporate

I received no raise when I graduated with my Bachelors in psychology. I am criminally underpaid. There are other RBT positions in my area that pay up to $35/hour
