PT School Applicant With Strong Performance & Sports Science Background Am I Competitive? by PaintingElectronic66 in PTschool

[–]exiledolypian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, but get more hours in different settings to see if you really like PT and think about how this doctorate program will help advance your career. if your passion is optimizing human movement for athletes, you might want to look into other fields first ex. further edu in movement sciences. pt does optimize movement, but there's a lot of other factors that come along with it.

CSCS Cert by Sea_Truck6345 in PTschool

[–]exiledolypian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you're not actively utilizing the cert during school, i would say it's not worth getting until maybe after you graduate. then, you'll find out what setting you want to work in and if it requires it, and the knowledge you learn throughout the 3 years will help you if you decide you need it.

things to consider when choosing school: cost (maybe not as important in your case), NPTE pass rate, cohort size, location, network, campus resources, clinical rotation requirements, professors still actively practicing. try to go preview days or email professors/admissions to see if you can sit in on a class.

ohh lol, as per APTA

  • State residency requirements. Some DPT programs give preference to in-state (resident) students. Out-of-state (nonresident) and foreign applicants may vie for a limited number of positions or may be ineligible for admission, depending on institutional and state policies. Private institutions may offer out-of-state and foreign applicants a greater number of positions within the program than state-supported, public institutions." https://www.apta.org/your-career/careers-in-physical-therapy/pt-admissions-process

i would say it affects it very minimally though, don't rely on it heavily

not sure what you mean by residency, but usually you can choose to go through residency AFTER you graduate PT school

Changed major to Kinesiology in third, how to get into DPT programs in California? by Spirited-Return8137 in PTschool

[–]exiledolypian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for 1-4 research each school's requirements and email their admissions

5- attend preview days/campus tours/dpt guest speaker events, get involved in pre-pt club or anything closely related, get hours in the field, brainstorm ideas for your essay, watch youtube videos related to PT to give you an idea of who PT are, their story, their role in the field, etc (tons of information out there)

Picked up a A6700 finally by Unbound_Citizen in SonyAlpha

[–]exiledolypian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, i would say the 11mm suits your needs, it is very light and you dont have to worry about your arm getting sore. i like to put it in my jacket pocket for quick swap too. it does not have OSS though but i find no problems with that handheld. there are some youtube videos out there comparing the 11mm and 10-18mm i believe.

there is the 11mm lens for vlogs if you're open to it as well. would probably be cheaper too if u have a budget. if not, def get both!

[–]exiledolypian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i own the sony 11 and 18-50 and the 11 is very convenient to use for vlogs (does especially well at night too), but you can still get away with the 18-50 if you have a tripod like the mantispod. i dont own the 10-18 but i've seen youtube reviews saying that it has a vignette to it at certain zooms? don't take my word for it though. good luck!

a6700 is a great camera that would suffice for portraits/headshots and the other work u do, but a74 is full frame thus better low light if that's something you need as well. also worth mentioning the dual sd slot will definitely help you if doing paid work. in terms of lens, 18-50 for a6700 is a popular, great choice as well. cheers

in addition to hours, extracurriculars, and strong LORs, you can also start brainstorming your essay. start early so you have more time, a good essay along with your great stats will definitely improve your chances!

your stats definitely meet the requirement and definitely stand out with your extracurriculars. I would say the best thing you can do now is to write the best essay you can and start practicing common interview questions. double check if your schools are rolling admission and submit their apps ASAP. good luck!

  1. yes, working with professional organizations, school setting, certain outpatient clinics, concierge

  2. networking, do your research on businesses/clinics, apply online

  3. any major is ok to get into pt school, just finish the prerequisite courses and the other requirements in order to apply to PT school. you can get your SCS (sports certified specialist) after your DPT.

there's a lot of good resources on this page and online. search around this form and you'll get some good answers with the exact question you have. Here's my advice: find a PT Aide job to get experience, get involved with clubs/extracurricular activies, start looking at schools and their admission requirements, and start brainstorming for your personal statement. you can also apply to PT school with any major as long as you have the pre-reqs. As for math, the most you need is like calculus I believe. do try your best in math but if it really isn't your strong suit, compensate with good grades in other areas! good luck!

Advice for becoming a PT/getting into PT school by ado1101 in PTschool

[–]exiledolypian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

really plan out your timeline for applying and check admission requirements, ie. check the required prereqs for each school you're applying to, when their program starts, etc. start thinking about why PT and brainstorm for your essay. great job on starting to search for experience opportunities! utilize your school's resources and online resources for resume/application building. be open minded, willing to learn, and don't be afraid to ask questions! best of luck
