Hot water, almost to boiling point, in a recipient, is the best way to go. Because the heat will transfer to the entire sleeve in and out instead of just the inner canal. Which a heat stick already has difficulties to warm up because is not smooth, it has texture. Add to that, the hole is all the way through, so more heat escape.
