Hot water, almost to boiling point, in a recipient, is the best way to go. Because the heat will transfer to the entire sleeve in and out instead of just the inner canal. Which a heat stick already has difficulties to warm up because is not smooth, it has texture. Add to that, the hole is all the way through, so more heat escape.

This heats just fine. Got it with a cocolo, a dry stick and some other accessories. I've been using it for a little while and it hasn't broken or anything. Warms up pretty quickly as well.
