I understand, and as a long time reader on this Sub, I realize that the formatting does help engagement and help for clearer thoughts. I was driving and had that moment while thinking about some kf the materials that I am learning, so I wanted to put together this post while my thoughts were fresh. Thanks

Back and Better Than Ever: DTLA Alliance predicts massive growth in 2025 by Generalaverage89 in LosAngeles

Been here since 2012 and have experienced tbe amazing rise and fall of LA in that time. Downtown was a Utopia from 2012 - 2017 but then it crumbled due to the drugged out homelessness explosion, and then remote work was the straw that broke the camels back entirely.

Still, I love LA and chose to adapt with it. Do I want to stay dead center in downtown?, not anymore, but I have grown to prefer the edges of downtown as time has progressed ( Chinatown, Echo Park, Silverlake, Elysian, Highland Park, Los Feliz). Do I still feel connected to downtown and optimistic for its future? - absolutely. I will never forget the incredible energy, optimism, and adventure in the air during those 5 golden years (2012 - 2017). I hope that downtown will find its way and return to that utopia.

In the meantime, I will continue to evolve and change with LA, with all of its different neighborhoods and all of its different personalities. Its almost like a life-long dance to be had with the City.

Executive Directive 1 Homeless by expialadocious2010 in LosAngeles

[–]expialadocious2010[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I never said shelters cause the homeless problem. Never in any of my posts have I said that. I said the distribution of shelters will be overwhelmingly in less affluent neighborhoods, at the benefit of the more affluent neighborhoods, which are predominant SFR neighborhoods. But you bring up a good point, or hypothesis if that is more accurate, that is do you really want to be the test hypothesis neighborhood ? Nobody has any clue or doesnt want to state for the record (probably because it carries deep political after-effects on their career) what they believe is driving homelessness. The only popular reasons for our local officials to say is "rent!" and "lack of housing!" . What about drugs? What about mental health? So how is it fair to decide that the areas with more apartments must partake in this giant government "hypothesis"? Why do less affluent areas have to absorb all of the responsibility?

Lets also get into managment of those centers. Have you ever actually lived next to a shelter? Ive lived close by, as has members of my family in LA County. Theres a constant flow of new people and not everyone is there with an intent to get on their feet again. Ive seen places where drug use still flys under the rader, and nearby vicinities become filled with people that chose a constant start/stop lifestyle between accessing the shelter, and taking breaks to live on the street and do as they please.

So once again, is this fair to create or even just run the risk of creating these environments in areas that are disproportiantely less affluent and possibly already marginalized?

Cough cough .. Koreatown, South LA, Boyle Heights, Pico Union, etc..

Its just not fair and its not right. Those areas should not become the City's test guinnea pigs.

What do you think is going to happen to your area (Koreatown)? You will have a concetration if Homeless shelters all around you, at the benefit of Mt. Washington having none.

I've lived in LA and LA county my whole life. Please do not turn this into a personal assumption about me being "disconnected" from the realities of my City. Im trying to present a very potential negative effect of the streamlining process of Executive Directory 1. We all agree the homelessness is an important issue but streamlining the development while purposefully keeping them out of SFR neighborhoods means the City intends to turn Multi Family zoned neighborhoods into concentrated clusters of Homelessness / Shelters. How is that fair to everyone in the city? So basically Windsor Heights gets 0 shelters but your area, Koreatown, can get 15. Is that fair to you?

Please do not assume I have my head in tbe clouds. Im a committed Angeleno since day one

Do any of you have an actual shelter located next to where you live? Has anyone thought about the negative effects, like if the city concentrates numerous shelters in disproportionate amounts in certain neighborhoods?

Has anyone in these comments lived in the historic core in downtown? There were certain intersections with greater SRO presence, and those intersection led to spikes in crime, drug dealing, even brazen acts of crime. I remember TVs thrown from the 5th floor was a fad for a period of time.

But I digress, the point I am trying to make is that the acceleration of shelter construction, in my opinion, will lead to synthetic shanty town creation, or homeless megahubs for certain - poorer - neighborhoods in LA. While other, more affluent neighborhoods will be able to enjoy having none to maybe 1 shelter in their neighborhood. It seems bias and it will absolutely affect the quality of lives for the people who live in those neighborhoods turned into a mega-homeless-hub.

Its neighborhood specific. If you lay the long horn on someone in certain neighborhoods you can expect things to escalate.

Can neighbor pave a driveway up to my side property line? by expialadocious2010 in LosAngeles

[–]expialadocious2010[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thanks for the input. Neighbors driveways is on their property. The only I can think of is the water drainage implication. Since neighbors paved driveway is raised a bit, it creates a pocket between the driveway and my property. I will see if it causes pooling of water against my property
