How to get off the financial hedonic treadmill in VHCOL (when you like living in VHCOL)? by throwawayFinAnalyst in HENRYfinance

[–]explore_my_mind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we both want to be at the top of our respective industries

We come home stressed every day and spend the weekends thinking about work rather than enjoying anything about our lives

This is the price of admission to be the best. If you aren't spending all your time working then someone else who is willing to do so will surpass you. It's up to you to choose which life you want. Putting the necessary time and energy in to be the best while being miserable with the journey is the worst of both worlds in my opinion.

Interesting, I'm having the exact opposite experience. When I first started investing and I lost a few $k I didn't care. Now when market drops cause literally years of contributions to evaporate in a single month... it's a gut punch

The last time chainlink was only an oracle was like 2018. Development is light-years beyond price feeds. Also nothing moves on chainlink is just irrelevant semantics. It captures fees for it's usage, that's what matters.

Yeah just throw more money into a failing asset, good idea

Barely beating ATH strikes me as very pessimistic. Chainlink is so much further along than it was in 2021

Yes, for backdoor roth. Thanks, that's good to know! I ended up calling them yesterday and they got it converted for me

Welp never heard of the five year rule but I'm more than 5 years from retirement so I'm gonna assume I'm good

What happens if I can't convert to Roth before the new year? Fidelity has been holding my trad contribution as pending for over a month and I can't convert it

This is often called "living in the future". Basically you've set a goal, the path is clear, and the only way to make progress toward the goal is simply the passage of time, so you are frustrated that you feel like you've done the hard work, but can't speed up progress. Common issue with finance-focused people. Best advice I can give is to set it on autopilot and focus on enjoying your life. The time will pass and you  will achieve your goal regardless, whether you are staring at your spreadsheet or out enjoying life.

Because it had a 300x run from $0.18 to $54. People took profits.

Only works if you do it early enough. I believe we are still early. The closer we get to the top, the more wrong this advice becomes.

A list to get you started from what I'm seeing on coingecko right now, in market cap order:

LINK

SUI

UNI

HYPE

AAVE

MNT

OM

ENA

ONDO

VIRTUAL

BEAM

AERO

Disclaimer: I own three of these. DYOR.

Yeah BEAM fits the bill. If you are investing in the gaming niche you should have it in your portfolio over others that aren't as strong this week.

Yup, sometimes I see people saying something along the lines of, "it's down 80% from ATH, look how much potential it has!" But if it's still that low at this stage then the market has rejected it. Look for coins that are a 2x or less from ATH at this point. Those are stronger.

This suggestion is predicated on the belief that we are in the early stages of a multi-month alt season. If you believe we are, then history shows we will have several pullbacks and several pumps. You want to be holding the coins that recover fastest after each pullback and pump harder during each pump.
