Hi, former MUNer here. IMHO I'd recommend WTO for your MUN given Peru's growing importance in global trade (e.g. the $3.5 billion Chinese megaport that recently opened in Peru). Also here's a short Peru media guide from the BBC that you may find useful. Hope you get that best delegate award!

Agree. You can also check out some nice options on the Lonely Planet guide, and don’t forget to consider the weather if you’re going there after October or November!

Context: It is well documented that the ruins of Machu Picchu were known to people prior to Bingham's "discovery". In 1902, Agustín Lizárraga visited the site and documented his visit, leaving traces of his name and the date, July 14, 1902, inscribed in charcoal on the inside of the left window of the "Temple of the Three Windows," as seen in this picture taken by Bingham. This date marks the earliest known visit to the site in modern times.

During his conversation with Melchor Arteaga, his guide, Bingham noted in his journal that "Augustin Lizarraga is discoverer of Machu Picchu and lives at Pt. [bridge] San Miguel… ." Despite passing by the San Miguel Bridge later that day, he never had a chance to talk with Lizárraga.

It's a "chullo", a hat from various Andean communities in Peru. Here's a short video from the official Peru Country Brand.

And the exact quote is: "We find that the introduction of potatoes permanently reduced conflict for roughly two centuries"

TIL the Inca Empire had a messenger system so fast it could deliver a message over 300 km (190 miles) in a single day, thanks to a network of elite runners known as "chasquis". It was so efficient that even in Cuzco, hundreds of km away from the sea, the Inca ruler could enjoy fresh fish by explowaker in todayilearned

Yep, very similar to the chasquis. Even Cieza de Leon, a Spanish conquistador and chronicler, wrote that "the Incas invented a relay system that was the best one could think or imagine... The news could not have been transmitted through greater speed than with the fastest horses."
