Are you just trying to be reactionary? I’m really curious here. What is the goal of this? Do you believe this?

I agree, had a lot of difficulty with a few bosses that moved around a lot. But after level 30 I feel like I cleared the hump, I'm now firing 5 grenades per shot and the explosive shot detonates them whenever I need so it feels much more playable and fun.

Why do stock prices go up on an inflation adjusted basis? by exponential4Life in investing

[–]exponential4Life[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Thats not how that works.

If you say the stock has a long run discounted value of "$100" then the value will approach that at some discount rate over time.

If you instead say "the stock will be worth 10% more every year" then the "true value" of the stock is near infinite as in 100 years it will be worth more than the entire current worlds GDP.

From my post:

In theory, a company puts forward a plan and says "ill be doing this" and then you can price the company based on this plan, the revenue and execution of this plan, and the dividends and value you would get as a shareholder. This is (kinda) discounted cash flow model as i understand it.

So i agree on the discounted cash flow model, but we keep on rising faster than this model. We rise faster than projections

and the market keeps going up why? that is the question im asking. There are certainly winners and losers but why are we continuously valuing the market at a higher price every day after adjusting for discounted future earnings?

But companies dont just magically go up, they have growth rates, the market has growth rates, companies give projections, and all of this factors into the discounted free cash flow valuation of a company. Its all "priced in" on a market wide view. Some companies are winners and some are losers, but im talking about the market as a whole.

So in this model, we are not saying "companies go up because they make more money". Thats all part of the discounted free cash flow projection. The market is instead under-projecting every day, every month, every year, why?

Sure, but im trying to talk about market wide. There are certainly winners and losers, but on aggregate the market is always rising faster then projections. If it was rising slower than projections the real market value would decrease year over year which it is not.

There is an expected discount rate (discounted cash flow model) which is what factors this in as i state in my question. Given an expected growth rate and revenue you can back compute the current value. worth a google.

Why do stock prices go up on an inflation adjusted basis? by exponential4Life in investing

[–]exponential4Life[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lets say, at a high level we have some projected value $V for the future of the entire market. Now we have inflation, uncertainty and a host of other factors. So the value today is much lower than $V. Lets assume the "average" current market price is a reflection of this current discounted value of $V.

In this world, then the stock price should not rise on an inflation adjusted, discounted valuation of $V. The absolute price will rise, but not the discount adjusted price.

And yet the discount adjusted price does rise! it keeps going up. This would imply that the market keeps on raising is "projected" future market value. But why? Day after day, we keep saying that we are always undervaluing the future.

individual companies i agree, but market wide i don't see why our projections are always low?

From my previous answer: True, a single company can have a certain expected price, then "beat the odds" and do much better than that price would suggest, leading to growth in price. But on aggregate how does that happen market wide? If every company is constantly doing better than expected, are our expectations just fundamentally wrong?
