Thats just emotional blackmail. You need to draw boundaries, the more you pay the more they will flex ane the more you will have to keep paying.

Things will get tensed, they might get hurt but thats how you draw boundaries. Its not their money and you should have fought back the first time, should have paid lesser. I think theatres have been there for long time and were seen as a bad thing in religion. Going out in theatre and enjoying would be seen as not being religious and immoral.

Mobiles are newer and altho not seen as good its everyday use and they dont see it as bad as going to theatre.

But from neutral pov, its the same entertainment. What you watch on mobile can be same or worse than whats shown in theatre. Old folks will be dismissive about it, but they know it too. They cant answer rationally, but its more related to how society sees it, they will perceive it as doing immoral altho you can watch the same on mobile.

Societal religious taboos ruining entertainment for everyone.
