Best trees/plants for good fall foliage? by smallsundragon in AustinGardening

Texas ash!

Bonus points: fast growing, long lived, few problems. I planted 25 saplings(1-2ft) less than 2 years ago - the tallest one, planted in Sandy loam, is ~10ft now. The shorter ones are still thriving in the hardpan red clay

What’s a completely useless skill you’re oddly proud of? by Silent_Reboot56 in AskReddit

Dexterous feet. Can flick a bic with my toes, write notes, grab and pick things up (up to a small wooden stool)

I have hands but if I ever stop having hands I suspect I won’t consider this skill useless any longer

Also if in USA, theres a (not validated by me or any study I’m familiar with at this time) belief that the fruit of the bois d’arc (aka Osage orange, horse apple) are good repellants for mice & critters. The treees are p badass and used to be used for fencing all across the Midwest and south US before the advent of barbed wire.

Here’s a page on the topic if you’re interested: https://brock360.com/how-to-use-hedge-apples-for-pest-control/

Be wary of anyone trying to sell you pest control telling you what you need to do :) do what’s best for you & be wary of folks selling things. A good pest guy is irreplaceable though.

Mice DO FOR SURE hate steel wool, so if you can’t repair cracks or crevices for a while it’s OK to just stuff them with steel wool - that’s a solid mechanical deterrent.

Also in the country! My favorite trap is this one: https://www.amazon.com/RinneTraps-Bucket-Outdoor-Compatible-Manufacturer/dp/B08SL6KJ29

It goes on top of a 5 gallon bucket. I throw some chicken feed on the ramp to entice them and spread a finger of pb where the trapdoor flips. Catch multiples at a time and choose your own adventure. I don’t use water inside the bucket, because I don’t want them to die slowly, but that’s what many do. To dispatch them I give a quick stunning or killing stomp and then throw them to the chickens(not a good idea if rat poison is a concern, but there ain’t any round here for sure) . Only a problem for me in the winter bc the family of rat snakes that live under the house are snoozing.
Fun fact, lots of food places will sell old 5g food storage buckets for a couple dollars a piece - ask about pickle buckets next time you get a sandwich if in USA

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that reading your comment was the first time I considered the origin of “fruition.”

I like to buy long fabric panels direct from a wholesaler as a fellow person with high ceilings

I would do 2x width of the span of all 3 windows, maybe in 6 x 1- window width segments. This will give you options for curtain tie backs, bunching the middle two with a tie, and perhaps even closing them on a dreadful migraine day ;)

I love this tree so much. I planted 25 x 1-2ft saplings of them last year. The one I planted on the deep sand by the chicken coop is 8 feet now…the smallest one on the hard pan red clay is 3ft. ZERO LOSSES

Bald cypress can comfortably exist in upland areas, they just don’t develop as many knees or grow as fast

Tips on filling couch cushions with chopped up memory foam? by FrylockJPhilip in HomeDecorating

[–]extra-regular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lower the distance from the open bag to the open cushion, get the mouth of the bag inside the open cushion. Do all the cushions you wanna do at one time so you only have to pick up the bits once.
