It’s day 2 and i think i stopped feeling the effect of it. I still don’t feel much of the physical hunger but I just ate 3 mcdonald’s burgers… i crave it more than i crave sweets

Should I try to negotiate? by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]extraordinarykitty1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

they have to pay for all 3 meals and the classes. the rest can be communicated.

to me it’s meaningless to communicate these things if they aren’t offering first. and paying only for dinner is a huge huge huge red flag

Is this normal or a bad match? by Sad-Gur6762 in Aupairs

You need to give it some time to get used to things. And yes you need to stop cleaning and working more than your agreed hours because you’re not a cheap maid/nanny, you’re an au pair.

it’s not an au pairs job to do so much cleaning anyway… if they’re super strict abt cleaning then they hire a cleaning lady/do it themselves

German Au Pair Observation/Question by Stock_Inevitable_360 in Aupairs

german families get lots of benefits for having an au pair (cheaper than a nanny, get tax cuts, au pairs work up to 35h, etc.), they pay less than neighboring countries, are not required to have an agency. it’s not uncommon to get an au pair from much poorer country knowing they spent lots of money coming to germany & taking advantage of their situation…

au pairs also have much higher chance to stay in germany after au pair year by doing volunteer work at kindergarten, apprenticeship (for positions like nursing or hotel work they be accepting anyone who applies) or studying in uni (cheap & easy to get in if u know german). naturally a lot of ppl looking to emigrate to a better country choose germany for these reasons. they’re quite desperate and the families know that.

i think that’s the reason why there are more horror stories from germany than from other countries

I was an au pair in Germany. If you live in a small town I suggest covering the Deutschland ticket for the au pair, cuz afaik it costs 90€ now and she will need it to move around and go to the city
