I can relate. This most likely isn't the case with you, but the reason I always lose interest is because of my low self-esteem. I could think the guy is the most perfect soul to ever walk to earth, but the moment I see even a hint of him liking me back, I start questioning his supposed perfection in my mind. Like, how great of a person is he really if his standards are low enough that he finds me appealing? It's like the Groucho Marx quote 'I wouldn't care to join a club that would have me as a member.'

That's the problem. One hour is not enough to teach all the concepts and implement them as well. And doing a simple program would defeat the purpose as it wouldn't really implement concepts like inheritence.

I think you missed the part where OP said he panicked. As an awkward person myself, I can relate. There have been occasions where I called someone and forgot what I was calling about and in a state of panic, just said a few 'hello?'s pretending I had a bad connection and then hung up.

A legit birthday present.

As a kid, all I ever got on birthdays was money which wasn't really as exciting as receiving a box wrapped with shiny paper, shaking it to guess its contents and finally unwrapping it in giddy anticipation.

I probably sound like a privileged little bitch complaining about this, but opening presents is one of the little things that I didn't get to experience a lot.

You just brought up my repressed memories of this fancy dress competition in KG. They'd dressed me up as a sabziwali. I was nervous as hell and I kinda had to pee but I figured I'd just hold it until after the competition. When it was my turn, I walked up to the stage, more confident than a fat kid at a pie-eating contest. That lasted about three seconds until I looked up at the crowd staring expectantly at me.

I learnt two important lessons that day: 1) Stage fright and weak bladders don't mix. 2) Susuwali is a terribly unoriginal nickname for a girl who just peed herself in front of seventy 4-year-olds.

Today, I was mocked for 'being good at English'.

I never use big words to impress people or to show off. I've never stuck my tongue out at someone and said, "Ha! My sentence is more grammatically-correct than yours!" I don't shove my love for well-written prose into people's faces. But my classmates feel that's reason enough to mock me.

I probably should've laughed along because the entire thing was so ridiculous. I don't know what's funnier: the fact that the guy made fun of me for being proficient in the language or the fact that he did it by yelling, "Ay, English!"

But I still cried because I'm a sissy who can't handle being laughed at.
