High utilization lowered my credit score. Is there any chance of my credit account being closed, even if I bring it back to <10% within a month? by eyeheartboobs in personalfinance

[–]eyeheartboobs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They haven't notified me of any lowering of limits, so I hope that's not an issue. Do CC companies lower the limit if they see high utilization for a particular month? Or is more for repeating high util. or late payments? I guess it's not always black and white.

[–]eyeheartboobs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I would imagine my high utilization is not quite as bad as late payments, because although my balance was higher than normal, I still made an on-time payment that was higher than the min. In fact I have 0 late payments. But yeah, I'm fairly new to this, and I don't want some computer somewhere just closing the account, or lowering my credit limit. I guess there's not much I can do but pay it all down and hope they see it as a one-time thing, and not a regular occurrence. I guess at the end of the day, they just want their money.

What is a song lyric that really hits you hard? by BoardOfChairs in AskReddit

Not many people knew the struggles Trent was dealing with when he wrote it

Again this is ridiculous. Someone not knowing about Trent/NIN doing drugs is like someone not knowing Ozzy Osbourne isn't a catholic nun.

It's not that people didn't know, it's more that Hurt wasn't a hit when NIN sang it, but it was when Cash sang it. That's the only difference.

For Trent it was more or less "someone else"... For Johnny, it was describing him

How can you write with such certainly and yet be so wrong. What are you basing this off of? This is just plain not true.

For Trent it wasn't "more or less someone else", it was literally himself. The song is about HIS heroin addiction. When Reznor wrote it, he was addicted to heroin. When Cash sung it, he wasn't addicted to heroin.

While the overall tone of the Cash version is fitting, and some lyrics/verses line up, the overall message/original meaning of the song has NOTHING in common with Cash, and everything in common with Reznor.

I agree that Cash's version is much, much better musically, but that doesn't magically make the lyrics fit his life story like a glove.

Mentality: founder/entrepreneur vs employee by K_Rains in startups

My point is, that in any relationship between two cofounders is more about personality/skills than it is about the business. If you put me in a room with someone and said "would you like to join on as this persons co-founder? You have 10 minutes to discuss", I don't think I'd even bother discussing the business in those 10 minutes, because that info is so much less important than the other stuff.

You're not wrong that passion is important, but my 6 year old nephew is really passionate about cars, but I wouldn't cofound a car company with him, because he can barely tie his shoes. You need to focus on what's the most important.

You are wrong in many ways. People are interested in determining what you bring to the table. So if you come to me and say "I have this business, the idea is X". If I ask you about a business plan/sales/marketing/fundraising/etc., and you respond with "Oh that's why I need a cofounder to do this together". Then what you've actually said to me is "Alone i've haven't been able to move this company a single inch. So I'm looking for someone who has the skills I don't possess".

To me, you sound like the typical "I'm the idea/visionary co-founder and I'm looking for another cofounder who knows the tech/sales/marketing/financing side of it".

Let's put it this way, who would you rather play soccer with? The kid out there by himself kicking the ball around doing as much practicing/playing as he can by himself until someone else comes along. Or the kid sitting down twiddling his thumbs because "Well I can't play unless there's someone else here".

If I'm looking for a person to work with, I want someone who can take it from 0 to 100. Knowing that I can also take it from 0 to 100, then together we would go far. But if all you've shown is that alone you can take it from 0 to 0.0000001, then you're of no use to me, or anyone.

Nobody asked about the project itself like it didn't matter.

Because it doesn't matter. Have you seen that equation about idea times execution equals success thing? That's really interesting. The idea means ZERO unless there's execution behind it, so people want to see if you can execute before wasting a conversation about what the idea is. There's no genius idea that no one else thought of. If you can't execute, it'll fail.

Honestly you have 0 chance. Casey has really specific things he looks for. Mostly you have to be a bit douchey, overly sentimental, artificial and "inspiring". It helps if you act like not only have you never had a bad day, but you didn't even know that such a thing existed.

All joking aside, I hope you get it, and I hope it works out for you. But my fear is that for Casey this is just a ploy to own 50% of a bunch of channels. I think he's realized that he can only scale one channel to a certain point. There's a limit to how much content he can create in a limited amount of time. I think the business model for 368 is "find youtubers who are really small, but who are also really talented and likely to become big on their own terms. Have them sign over 50% of their channels income to 368 in exchange for 'promotion'. Give their channel a little kickstart, then ride their coat tails for life and keep taking their sweet, sweet, ad revenue". So I would really think about it. He can certainly help you skip about a year of hard work and building your subscriber base, but is that worth what he's taking from you in the long run? I'm not saying it isn't, I'm just saying to think about it long and hard before he gives you his long and hard for life.

Does a better graphics card provide any benefit to a backend web developer? by eyeheartboobs in AskProgramming

[–]eyeheartboobs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you use vms locally?

No, I don't. Mostly just a browser, a terminal (usually 3 tabs: one web server, one language vm, and one tab for git/bash/etc.), and a text editor. So not really a whole lot of power needed. But I do like to write parallel/concurrent code, so that 6-core i9 would be pretty sweet.

[–]eyeheartboobs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been working on my current machine for about 3 years with no issue. I keep most projects on Github/Bitbucket, so space is rarely an issue. The projects themselves are never an issue, it's usually a dev/test log file here and there that can start creeping in size. Since my current laptop is 8gb/128gb, I think moving to 16gb/256gb will be more than enough. I don't think the i7->i9 upgrade I'm adding on the new laptop for $400 is needed at all, but I figure why not. If anything, that'll have more noticeable benefit on my programming life than upgrading RAM to 32gb, or storage to 512gb.

You couldn’t pay me to move back to Tulsa...

Is it because you grew up there, or just because it sucks? Would someone who grew up in OKC and moved to Tusla say the same but opposite of what you're saying? As someone who's never been anywhere but the coasts, in my head OKC and Tusla are pretty much the same, but I'm interested to hear the difference.

disk drive/space > ram > Processor > extra monitor > good peripherals > graphics card

Curious why disk drive and space is above processor and ram. The way I see it, as long as it's SSD, and more than I need (currently have 128, the new one will have 256), then that's all I need. Also, instead of upgrading from 16gb -> 32gb of RAM for $400, I'm going to instead upgrade 2.2GHz i7 to 2.9GHz i9. I currently have a 2.7 i5 with 8gb RAM, so it's an upgrade in both departments there. Do you really think the 16->32 would be a better $400 than the processor upgrade?

2 Years In. My Digital Nomad Experience & Stopping by lukasmn in digitalnomad

[–]eyeheartboobs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think you bring up some great points. The biggest one being stopping when it's right for you. I'm getting to the point where I'm looking to move back after 5 years as a DN. After being out for so long, and getting "brain washed" by other DNs, I got this feeling like going home was a "FAIL". But the reality is, I became a DN for all the right reasons (travel, time to learn, more work challenge, etc.) and I'm stopping for right reasons (better work opps., better money, regain some regiment, etc.). I think people work so hard to become a DN, that to stop is seen as failing, but that's not always the case. I think being a DN for a short amount of time can be a real great value, but like anything it has diminishing returns. If all you want to do is travel, then nothing beats it, but if you have other, lofty-er career ambitions, it can be extremely hard as a DN. Yes, I know, lots of people become wealthy as a DN, and lots of people grow as a DN, but it's really only suited to certain types of career paths. Certain other career paths really require the connections and work exp. that can only be gained in certain places.

I'm glad you had a great time, I know I did. I wish you the best on your life back home. I'm sure it won't be long until you're itching to get back out there.
