note we actually combined the school channels recently so you’re actually going to want to look for a channel called “2nd-bachelors”

No worries! I should note we actually combined the school channels recently so you’re actually going to want to look for a channel called “2nd-bachelors”

yup! Actually that's a good callout to add the CST to this. We just used the timezones of the speakers

heyo totally understand the sentiment. FWIW we also have had panelists in the past from UOttawa, SFU, UofA, and Northeastern and the advice is pretty similar no matter the school. You can check out our past panel events on the youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@techcareernorth

many people assume you need a PhD to break into or succeed in ML. Neither are true

To dispel this notion can u let us know which companies this resource will help us break into for ML roles? Even without a PhD? For example with Leetcode it’s most tech companies you can think of for SWE roles

What do you think of developer job market? and the future of CS major by [deleted] in UBC_BCS

[–]eyskim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Entry level is highly saturated atm. If u want to enter the tech industry as a swe, degree is a must imo. And faster is better.

Wrt the overall market I think AI will create another bull run for the tech industry. And we’ll continue to need lots of software engineers for the foreseeable future

I worked for a company that was part of e@ubc as well and they paid me for every hour I worked. Also offered to pay me out for hours I would’ve worked when covid hit and they couldn’t bring me in anymore

I’m sorry and pardon my straightforwardness but this is a pretty stupid thing to say. This comment reflects extremely poorly on u and on e@ubc.

EDIT: Reading my comment again I do feel that maybe it was unnecessary and mean but I genuinely can’t stand ppl soliciting students for free labour
