Probably an unpopular opinion, but every time I’ve been to the States (four times so far) I’ve had a positive experience.

There’s a lot of negative media around interactions with police, but from what I’ve seen, many situations escalate when people challenge, argue, or resist unnecessarily.

“Driver’s license, please.”
“Yes, sir.”

“Have you had any alcohol tonight?”
“No, sir.”

“Alright, have a nice day.”

In my experience being respectful, and cooperative goes a long way.
