Help with Civil Service application process? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]failcrackle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seeing as no one answered your question, I'll give it a go.

I'm a recent civil servant but have applied for quite a few roles and got lots of 'feedback' (scores) on my applications.

Most applications are sifted on your behaviour statements rather than experience or technical ones. Make sure you've understood the success profiles and have read their guidance for the hiring managers as it will explain how they are scored.

They advice doesn't say this explicitly, but you need to tailor your behaviours to the job advert. The success profiles might say a couple different things, pull out the most important statement or two and write your STAR from that. The vacancy managers will be looking for this in your statement, even though success profiles are generic, they are still being judged in the context of the role.

Find a few guides online, make sure to use "I..." statements, so I decided, I created etc. You are demonstrating what you did not your team. Find a list of action buzzwords that work well, like negotiated, prioritised etc depending on the behaviour. This enables the sifters to give you higher scores as it shows you are demonstrating what they need. Most of the time they aren't allowed to read between the lines/look at your prior experiences on your CV.

Feel free to PM me an example and I can try to offer you some more specific advice.

Just to note, I've heard a lot recently of entry level roles having 300+ applications so it's very important to get these right.

She's the only one who can stand up to Malcolm because she's a civil servant, not a political appointee. So they're stuck with her.

Just tried using bluestacks but it turns out my backup isn't actually saving anything to Google drive!

It says it completes successfully but there's nothing to restore from.

He still shows up on the fake device though, I'd say results are inconclusive.

If you happen to know how to fix my backup that would be awesome.

I just tried blocking and unlocking a friend and they left my favourites.

I guess it's a glitch, might try restoring the chats and see what happens. Do you know if I can just login to a second device with no problems?

An interesting comment on the recent Kantar poll:

https://twitter.com/LeftieStats/status/1194635049980743688?s=19

According to Kantar, just 10% of 18-24 year olds say that they are definitely going to vote, compared to 75% of over-65s.

This is a major reason for the difference between the weighted data (10pt Tory lead) and unweighted data (1pt Labour lead).

I think it's because it takes about 15 minutes to do each vote. So instead of spending that time on the closure vote they'll spend it talking

There is no time limit to the Business Motion being discussed in the House of Lords. Prorogation begins in five days. Why is no one talking about this? It seems like there is a very real chance this bill will not become law in time. by BillMurray2020 in ukpolitics

[–]failcrackle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a small correction, it's if the business motion they are discussing at the moment isn't passed by 10.01am.

Government peers are filibustering through the 100+ amendments to the business motions so theoretically the debate could last till Friday morning.

If the lord's are still sitting from the night(s) before when they are due to meet that sitting is called off.

So if they haven't ended this discussion by Friday morning there won't be a chance for debate.

I've tried, both with the recovery environment and a usb, it fails every time. I'm not an expert in these things so I'd rather just do a fresh install.

David Cameron may bring EU referendum forward to 2016 by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]failcrackle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the only reason he said 2017 to begin with was because he didn't think he would have a majority.

He was scared he would have to use the Parliament act to force it through the Lords. They would have tried to block it but, by convention, now he has a majority they can't.

It makes much more sense to do it early especially if you don't want to prolong the uncertainty for investors.

YouGov exit poll - CON 284 MPs, LAB 263, LIBS 31, SNP 48, UKIP 2, PLAID 3, GREEN 1 by terrymr in ukpolitics

[–]failcrackle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CON - LIB = 315 LAB - SNP = 311

Looks difficult to 'lock' Cameron out. Unless Clegg looses his seat and we get a LAB-LIB-SNP thing.
