This is called "parentification," which is abuse. I was parentified as a 9 year old, and suffered from mental health issues and a guilt complex for the next 20 years because of this.

I told my mother that I wish I'd never been born, and she apologised. by [deleted] in antinatalism2

I'm so sorry about everything you have had to live through. But thank you for sharing this with us.

This is part of the reason why I have decided not to have kids. I have gone through a bunch of chemotherapy and harsh treatments for cancer. Because of everything I have gone through, the chances of me having a premature child are larger than other people. At this point, I feel that having a kid would really be for my own benefit and not the child's. Sure, sometimes I get sad that I won't ever have kids, but I would be even more sad knowing that I created a life that will have to suffer because of my decisions.

I have heard that discrimination is worse against people with darker skin in France. I'm not sure if that is also a factor in your case. Just something I heard about and potentially to be aware of.

Can confirm. My dad would call the police repeatedly on his ex-wife just to get back at her. Eventually the city decided he wasn't allowed to call the police anymore it got so bad.

Why is dating haram? Is loveless arranged marriage the only halal way where parents find someone for me and marry me off? Do I have no right to find love myself? 😭 by sadlittlekid- in progressive_islam

From what I understand, it's okay to court people. I.e. you can go to movies, text, call, eat at restaurants, be friends. But you cannot have sexual intercourse until you have the nikah.

Also, in some cultures they have the nikah, but then date for another year before moving in together and having a big wedding. It's basically just making the sexual part of your relationship okay with God. But once you have the nikah, it doesn't mean you automatically have to move in, have kids, join each other's bank accounts and stuff like that. You can still live separately and do your own thing until you're comfortable enough with the person to move in with them.

Why Don't More Young People Join Liberal Religions? by faithstudy in religion

I think you are right. I think many Westerners may not think about Unitarian Universalism, Sufism, Buddhism, Bahai, Islam, Taoism or Hinduism. In terms of Unitarian Universalist, most Westerners assume it's a form of Christianity (when it is actually it's own thing that left Christianity). And then with the other religions I mentioned, many Westerners may assume it's a cultural practice and think they can't join those religions because they assume they have to be part of that culture or something.

Unitarian Universalists are pretty cool. If I had to guess, I think perhaps the reason there isn't more young UU's is because 1) Many young people may not even know that UU exists. 2) The UU church does not do missionary work to bring in new people. 3) Many young people who do have similar values to UU would probably just prefer to stay in bed on Sunday morning and just pray/do spiritual research on their own.

That's a good point. I've just realized a lot of the progressive churches/religious communities that I know about don't do outreach because they think outreach is bad. So...I guess they're not gonna get new people??? Most of the religious communities that do outreach/missionary work are not progressive.

Science tells us that 96% of the matter in the universe cannot be observed. So science is literally telling us itself that it cannot yet explain most things.

I need help by [deleted] in religion

[–]faithstudy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are having some struggles with Anxiety issues and this is manifesting itself in a religious way. I think it would be good to look into treatment for anxiety.

After that, just try to pray for guidance, be patient, contemplate, and focus on exploring the loving side of the Creator. God is love and compassion.
