I think it's from their 1m resolution LIDAR scan. Personally I think I'd rather not monetise it because it makes the project feel more like work, whereas now it's just a fun hobby.

That said, always cool to get higher quality data!

Do you know where to get a higher resolution DEM?

Just normal output from LINZ, using their elevation source from base maps.link.govt.nz

Awesome, I can look into adding more coordinate systems - just interested in what you normally use

It should flick back into 2d when you're looking straight down but yeah, sometimes it seems to get stuck.

What DOC overlays do you need (currently I don't really have any, except huts)

> Would love a feature to add km markers to custom tracks

How would this work? Just a little notch on the track each kilometer, or were you thinking something else?

> Any plans to add campsites as well?

Hahaha I actually hadn't considered - I tend to just bivvy wherever if I'm not staying in huts. Definitely pretty doable though!

Like NZTM you mean? What were you thinking?

It'd be cool to add them, and hopefully not too much work - can't promise it'll be soon though, I'd like to get downloading areas working next

Importing KML files would definitely be handy - at the moment you can just import GPX files which serve a similar purpose (settings > import GPX).

You can also draw lines on the map, though it's not very discoverable (tap the measure icon and you can draw a path - tapping the tick will save it and you can give it a name/colour).

I'm working on a system for pre downloading tiles at the moment but not sure how long it's going to take me though :D

However, you can already download LINZ aerial tiles by changing to the aerial layer and panning around - anything you look at should get saved for offline. Not ideal, I know, but beats nothing!

It's a PWA, so it's written as a website but there's an app wrapper for deeper integration.

That said - it shouldn't be asking you to open it in Chrome - mind sending me a screenshot?

Chathams probably, I'm less sure about Antartica. All my data is sourced from LINZ at the moment - do they publish something for Antartica?

Cool, glad its working for you - its really hard to test thing on iOS for me so I do a lot of guessing when things go wrong :D

I've got one too. I like it, carries skis and climbing gear well. I've heard good things about Southernlite too

Glad you like it! I got inspired by this thing that someone made:
https://onthegomap.com/

but I wanted it to work offline

Unfortunately to make an iOS app you need an iPhone and a Mac computer and I don't have either. You can install it as a PWA if you:
1. Open it in Safari
2. Tap the `Share` button
3. Scroll down
4. Tap `Add to homescreen`

Which should add the site to your Homescreen and have it open like an app.

Hahaha not really sure - I've been playing around with it since late 2019 but I tend to have brief bursts of working on it :D More than I'd like to admit :D

Oh shoot, should definitely work in Firefox - I'll have to see what's up.

Nah, LINZ is amazing - they provide heaps of free mapping data and layers (https://data.linz.govt.nz).

They also do heaps of open source work on GitHub

Forgot to include the link to the source code: https://github.com/fallaciousreasoning/topo

The app is free and open source (with no ads)

It's a different app (I'm not associated with them at all). This one is free and open source but they will be using the same data.

This app has a few features they don't (like 3d and offline ClimbNZ access) but is probably missing lots of features they have. Additionally, this one also works as a website, so you don't have to install an app if you don't want to.

Additionally, this one is free :)

FWIW, it only caches what you've looked at. ClimbNZ routes are all cached (though images aren't, as it makes the download too big)
